Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision.     Under supervision, the Anesthesia Technician maintains the machinery, equipment and supplies necessary for the delivery of anesthesia; assists the Anesthesiologist with the technical setup preparatory to the induction of anesthesia and performs other related duties.

    The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months. Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or California High School Proficiency Certificate.

    Certification: Completion of an Anesthesia Technician training program and must possess and maintain a current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross.
     
    Applicants are required to attach a copy of their certifications to their application.

    Substitution:  One (1) year of full time or equivalent of full time experience performing anesthesia services may substitute for the completion of an Anesthesia Technician training program.
    1. Application Filing and Evaluation:  All applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
    2. Training and Experience Evaluation:  At the time of filing, within the supplemental questionnaire, candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire. Candidates that clearly meet the minimum qualifications, as described above, will have their training and experience responses evaluated. The training and experience questionnaire is designed to measure candidate’s relevant education, training, and/or experience as it relates to the Anesthesia Technician classification. (Weighted 100%).  
     
    The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
