Animal Technician jobs in Columbus, MS

Animal Technician provides daily care for research animals of various species. Cleans and disinfects cages and equipment. Being an Animal Technician monitors the health and well being of the animals, maintains logs of animal diet, behavior, vital signs and other data. Follows standard operating procedures and all biosafety and animal welfare regulations. Additionally, Animal Technician may perform procedures to collect samples. May transport animals to and from laboratories. Requires a high school diploma. May require Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or other certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Animal Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     Duties

    Your priority is to keep the animals safe, comfortable, healthy, and happy. Doing that involves:

    • Feeding and watering the pets
    • Cleaning, such as hosing out kennels, washing dishes, and doing laundry
    • Exercising the dogs
    • Welcoming new animals and inputting their information into a computer
    • Giving tours and assisting with adoptions
    • Pitching in on other duties as needed

    We're looking for someone who's eager to learn. You will be learning computer software (ShelterLuv), along with veterinary skills, such as how to recognize certain diseases.

    • Computer experience — preferably with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and email
    • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing)

We practice no-kill policies, perform community outreach and education, and work to make life better for animals.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $8.00 - $10.00 per hour

    Expected hours: 40 per week
