Animal Technician provides daily care for research animals of various species. Cleans and disinfects cages and equipment. Being an Animal Technician monitors the health and well being of the animals, maintains logs of animal diet, behavior, vital signs and other data. Follows standard operating procedures and all biosafety and animal welfare regulations. Additionally, Animal Technician may perform procedures to collect samples. May transport animals to and from laboratories. Requires a high school diploma. May require Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or other certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Animal Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. We are a two doctor, small animal practice in Littleton searching for an experienced motivated CVT/Experienced Technician to join our team that is driven to learn and help grow our practice with us. The clinic focuses on empathy, compassion, and building relationships within a small community. We are searching for someone who will wear all hats, but primarily be focused on technician duties. Communicating clearly and being able to provide client education is integral. It can be overwhelming at times, so a focused, positive, and team-oriented attitude is a must. We would prefer someone who is interested in a long term position with a flexible schedule. We close at 6:30pm, but we do not always leave then :) Wage is based on experience. Duties:
- Assist veterinarians in providing medical care to animals
- Perform various laboratory tests and procedures, such as bloodwork and urinalysis
- Administer medications and vaccines to animals as directed by veterinarians; comfortable with blood draws, catheter placement, dosages, express AG, knowledge of medications, fill medications, etc.
- Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures/monitor anesthesia/cleaning teeth
- Take Radiographs (knowledge of positioning for body/chest/limb and dental)
- Clean and sterilize veterinary equipment /instruments
- Provide compassionate care and support to animals and their owners
