Animal Technician provides daily care for research animals of various species. Cleans and disinfects cages and equipment. Being an Animal Technician monitors the health and well being of the animals, maintains logs of animal diet, behavior, vital signs and other data. Follows standard operating procedures and all biosafety and animal welfare regulations. Additionally, Animal Technician may perform procedures to collect samples. May transport animals to and from laboratories. Requires a high school diploma. May require Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or other certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Animal Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Key Responsibilities will include:
Feed, medicate and observe felinbes to ensure they receive outstanding care; informing supervisors of changes to animal behaviors
Clean and sanitize shelter areas such as cages, kennels, food containers, litter pans, laundry, etc.
Provide adoption counseling to ensure a perfect match with adopters.
Able to exercise, socialize, and help train animals per shelter guidelines
Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals to achieve an efficient, healthy, safe and pleasant environment for the animals and public
Providing excellent customer service skills and a friendly demeanor to assist the public with the selection and adoption of a companion animal
Maintain accurate records of animals including feeding, exercise, and behaviors
Familiarization of the Pet Helpers website and ability to effectively communicate the principles, purposes, and objectives of the organization
Requirements/Skills:
Experience/general knowledge and understanding of animal shelters or veterinary practices preferred
High school diploma (minimum)
Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and walk/stand on your feet throughout a normal work day.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
Able to work in a fast-paced, high energy, team environment
Ability to utilize time management skills and initiative to solve problems, with minimal supervision or direction
Tuesday - Saturday 9 - 5 with some holidays
