Animal Technician provides daily care for research animals of various species. Cleans and disinfects cages and equipment. Being an Animal Technician monitors the health and well being of the animals, maintains logs of animal diet, behavior, vital signs and other data. Follows standard operating procedures and all biosafety and animal welfare regulations. Additionally, Animal Technician may perform procedures to collect samples. May transport animals to and from laboratories. Requires a high school diploma. May require Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or other certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Animal Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Castaway Animals Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.) Sanctuary is looking for an Animal Care Technician to join our lifesaving team.Primary tasks:
- Mixing feeds, feeding and caring for dogs, cats, small animals, horses and all types of livestock.
- Cleaning barn stalls, coops, kennels, runs, yards, cages, litter boxes and dishes.
- Work with horses, cows, goats and other animals using positive reinforcement/force free handling/training methods.
- Administer oral, topical and injectable medications for dogs, cats and other animals.
- Provide care to special needs animals, includes hand feeding, bottle feeding and tube feeding.
- Walk/exercise handle shelter dogs while maintaining control of small and very large dogs.
- Bathe, groom and brush the animals.
- Sweep and mop floors, wash fold and put away laundry, sort and put away supplies.
- Drive work cargo van to pick up animals or supplies/feed.
- Maintain an organized and clean work environment.
Requirements:- Must be kind and compassionate towards all types of animals.
- Should live within 30-40 minutes of Aurora MO area.
- Requires the ability to work 5 days a week up to 40 hours weekly.
- Must be available to work days and evenings on a set schedule 1pm-9pm on Thursday-Monday.
- Off Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver license.
- Must show up to work as scheduled and on time.
- Must enjoy working outdoors, with large and small dogs, cats and other animals including farm animals.
- Requires the ability to do physical labor walking, lifting, bending, shoveling and general yard work outdoors.
- Requires the ability to regularly lift 50 pounds easily to load and unload feed and supplies.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Requires the ability to understand both verbal and written instructions and carry out those instructions.
- Must be dependable to work alone or with the team (including volunteers) to achieve goals and tasks.
- Pay starts at $13-$15 per hour (dependent on experience and position hired) paid weekly.
- No health insurance or benefits available with this position
- Training for this position is available but someone with experience in the field of animal care is preferred.
