Animal Technician provides daily care for research animals of various species. Cleans and disinfects cages and equipment. Being an Animal Technician monitors the health and well being of the animals, maintains logs of animal diet, behavior, vital signs and other data. Follows standard operating procedures and all biosafety and animal welfare regulations. Additionally, Animal Technician may perform procedures to collect samples. May transport animals to and from laboratories. Requires a high school diploma. May require Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or other certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Animal Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     We are seeking part time Animal Care Technicians for the Northwest Spay & Neuter Center which provides spay, neuter, wellness and (coming soon) dentistry services to income qualified homes and local animal welfare agencies. Northwest Spay & Neuter Center is the largest spay and neuter center in Washington state providing over 14,000 surgeries and over 5,000 wellness exams per year.

    What you’ll be doing (as part of a team with training):
    • Animal Support:
      • Keeping their living areas clean and calming
      • Examination of incoming animals
      • Feeding, bathing and hygiene
    • Clinic Support:
      • Cleaning (think poop, a LOT of poop)
      • Maintaining inventory of food, cleaning, and safety supplies needed
    • Promoting a positive image of the organization through positive public relations
    What you’ll need to be successful (minimum requirements):
    • Ability to engage with animals and humans who may be having a hard day with a commitment to quality care.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, verbal or written, in repetitious tasks and one-off situations.
    • Strong communication skills to demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, tact, compassion, and sound judgment to your coworkers and community members.
    • Ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, and/or stoop for entire shift / extended periods of time; hear sufficiently; regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
    • This position works daily in spay, neuter, wellness, and surgery clinic. This position will come in direct contact with animals and will be exposed to animal related waste, smells and sounds.
