Animal Technician, Sr. jobs in Asheville, NC

Animal Technician, Sr. provides daily care for research animals of various species. Cleans and disinfects cages and equipment. Being an Animal Technician, Sr. monitors the health and well being of the animals, maintains logs of animal diet, behavior, vital signs and other data. Follows standard operating procedures and all biosafety and animal welfare regulations. Additionally, Animal Technician, Sr. may perform procedures to collect samples. May transport animals to and from laboratories. Requires a high school diploma. May require Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or other certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Animal Technician, Sr. works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. We utilize electronic medical records (Cornerstone), have Idexx out lab and Idexx in-house diagnostics including Sedivue, state of the art anesthesia monitoring equipment and DR x-ray. Our facility boasts 11 exam rooms, a 2 table surgical suite, ultrasound, Companion CTS Duo therapy laser and orthopedic surgery capabilities. We leverage and schedule our technical team to support our DVMs and schedule 2 technical teammates per DVM. We are currently seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to join the team, so we encourage you to apply today!

    Registered Veterinary Technician Role Requirements

    • Veterinary Technician Certification or Licensure (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT) or the ability to transfer credentials from state to state.
    • Associate degree in Veterinary Technology

    Registered Veterinary Technician Responsibilities

    • Professional client communication and education obtaining medical histories and symptoms
    • Laboratory procedures including but not limited to: hematology, cytology, urinalysis, microbiology, blood chemistry, and fecals
    • Diagnostic imaging and implementing safety protocols of fellow staff members
    • Nursing skills including: restraining patients, administering medications PO/IV/SUBQ/IM, applying and maintaining bandages, proficient IV catheter placement and venipuncture, surgery prep, and anesthesia monitoring
    • Competently perform dental prophylaxis
