Animal Technician, Sr. jobs in Petersburg, VA

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team. Our practice has been owned and operated by the same family since 1980 but has been in continuous operation since 1950. We provide a modern facility built in 2011 that includes, digital x-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasound as well as a large apartment sized breakroom with a full-size kitchen. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to our small animal patients. This position requires a strong background in animal care, handling, and medical procedures. Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians in providing medical care to animals
- Perform routine procedures such as vaccinations, blood draws, and catheterization
- Monitor and record vital signs of animals during procedures and treatments
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
- Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures
- Conduct laboratory tests and analyze samples
- Maintain accurate medical records for each animal
- Provide compassionate care and support to animals and their owners
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the veterinary clinic

Requirements:
- Must hold a license for a Veterinary Technician degree through the state of Virginia
- Strong knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology
- Experience in handling dogs, cats and other small animals
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques and infection control protocols
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate pet owners on proper animal care
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment used in veterinary clinics
