Animal Technician, Sr. provides daily care for research animals of various species. Cleans and disinfects cages and equipment. Being an Animal Technician, Sr. monitors the health and well being of the animals, maintains logs of animal diet, behavior, vital signs and other data. Follows standard operating procedures and all biosafety and animal welfare regulations. Additionally, Animal Technician, Sr. may perform procedures to collect samples. May transport animals to and from laboratories. Requires a high school diploma. May require Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or other certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Animal Technician, Sr. works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Ebert Animal Hospital is hiring for full time Licensed Veterinary Technicians to join our team!  We will be moving to a new location late summer/early fall!  At Ebert Animal Hospital  you will be a part of an experienced team that focuses on gold standard medicine and continuous improvement. Our doctors offer a variety of services - our team puts emphasis on preventative care, in addition to allergies and internal medicine, soft tissue surgery as well as most orthopedic procedures. In addition, our practice is equipped with ultrasound and other technology to aid in the diagnostic phase. We offer a collaborative team environment and strive to provide genuine Work Life Balance for all our Team Members.   Location: 3530 Southern Blvd, Youngstown, OH 44507  Compensation: $20-22/hour, based on experience.  Clinic hours: Monday through Friday from 7:30am until 5:00pm and Saturday's from 7:30am-12:00. Rotational Saturdays required.   How you"ll make an impact:
    • Provide quality patient care in tandem with other medical professionals.
    • Be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to: laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery and dentistry.
    • Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in patient files. Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.
    • Schedule appointments, take payments and check-in clients. Answer practice phone lines.
    • Participate in any special cleaning duties and equipment maintenance as directed.

    Job Summary:   The Licensed Veterinary Technician provides leadership and training to the medical support staff in the operation of a small animal facility in accordance with hospital policy and procedures and provides medical care to patients as allowed in the veterinary practice act. The Licensed Veterinary Technician will be able to communicate effectively with team members and clients and have great attention to detail and organizational abilities.

    • Provide input to the hospital manager for 360-degree employee performance evaluations.  
    • Provide patient care under the supervision and direction of a DVM. 
    • Maintain excellent client communication. 
    • Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar, terms, and accurate information.  
    • Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.  
    • Answer client’s inquiries about basic animal care questions and routine procedures; handle client’s medical questions with confidence and direct to veterinarians when appropriate. 

    Qualifications

    • Must be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental and nursing skills. 
    • Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and ability to handle a fast-paced environment. 
    • Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis. 
    • Ability to give SQ, IM and IV injections. 
    • Knowledge of usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs and ability to readily explain them to the clients. 
    • Knowledge of the common anesthesia and recovery states and ability to alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients. 
    • Ability to properly extubate, monitor temperature and recover a patient from anesthesia. 
    • The employee must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently. 
    •  The employee must be confident around pets.
