    The Director, Annual Fund is responsible for leading, equipping and serving World Relief’s annual fund team, an experienced team working with partners and donors in our general membership, mid-level giving, monthly giving and lapsed donor portfolios, and managing the team’s direct mail and digital communications program. This highly effective leader is responsible for serving our partners and the team by seeking their highest potential, developing an annual fundraising and communications plan to reach or exceed revenue goals and collaborating with other teams within World Relief to provide a best in class experience for donors. They will also participate on the Strategic Engagement Lead Team, working collaboratively to create and sustain a team culture that values living out their faith, high performance and loving their work.   This is a fully remote position reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Engagement with 4 direct reports.

    Role & Responsibilities

    • Support and provide leadership to the annual fund team to reach or exceed annual revenue goals and accomplish monthly lead indicators.
    • Provide spiritual leadership for the team consistent with a deep commitment to faithfulness and prayer.
    • Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan that aligns opportunities within each donor portfolio – general membership, monthly-giving, mid-level giving and lapsed donors – and optimizes opportunities for cross-team collaboration within the organization as a whole. 
    • Develop and implement a direct mail and digital communication plan, with the assistance of the Annual Fund Communications Coordinator, a direct mail firm, and in collaboration with The Marketing Team.
    • Co-develop and help implement an integrated strategy across all portfolios (breath/mid-level/depth) that moves partners into the portfolio that will serve them best and grow their influence and impact. 
    • Lead the team in times of disaster response.
    • Work closely with our planned giving lead to develop strategies and plans to solicit planned and asset based gifts. 
    • Coach the team in incorporating planned and asset-based giving conversations and content.
    • Collaborate closely with and participate in regular meetings with World Relief’s marketing team to amplify opportunities for acquisition, to promote monthly-giving and implement fundraising and communications campaigns.
    • Collaborate closely with our operations team and donations management team to ensure data cleanliness in the Raiser’s Edge/NXT CRM, develop the donor pipeline and track giving and other reports.
    • Stay attuned to emerging fundraising trends and strategy, as well as national fundraising reports, and implement lessons learned.
    • Create and edit story branded copy for donor communications and appeals.
    • Participate in donor stewardship and cultivation alongside portfolio leads as needed.
    • Develop new processes and strategies for stewarding and appealing to churches within the annual fund portfolios.
    • Recruit and onboard new team members, integrating them into the Strategic Engagement Team culture. 
    • Attend in-person gatherings throughout the United States and occasionally internationally, including 2-times a year Strategic Engagement & Development Team Retreat, 1-time a year Annual Fund Retreat, 1-time year Strategic Engagement & Development Lead Team Retreat and other opportunities as they arise.


    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    • Experience developing diverse, successful and highly engaged teams.
    • Experience in coaching and training fundraisers.
    • Clear and persuasive verbal and written communicator.
    • Experience with a fundraising CRM. Direct experience with Raiser’s Edge/NXT a plus!
    • Capacity to assess and evaluate ideas, strategies for development and existing programs and processes to determine their current or potential effectiveness, performance and results in conformity with intended indicators, targets and standards.
    • Organizational skills; strong leadership competencies, strategic thinking, self-directed, decisive, problem solver, diplomatic, ability to prioritize, advanced cross-cultural sensitivity and communication skills, assessment and evaluation skills, strong relational and human resource skills, commitment to team, skill in training and group facilitation.

    • Travel 10-20% nationally and occasionally internationally
    • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in fundraising, to include experience with general membership, monthly giving, donations management, direct mail and digital communications.
