Responsibilities:
An Illinois Small Business Development Center Director typically:
- Supervises and manages all SBDC activities for the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses.
- Acts as fiscal agent for the SBDC
- Prepares and submits reports as required and requested by WIU, Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs and Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity
- Identifies, supports and assists new and existing student and business entrepreneurs to grow and develop small business in the assigned region.
- Researches, compiles and disseminates information on specific business issues
- Researches, reviews and assists with preparation of client business plans and loan applications
- Researches, prepares, and conducts training and education of clients and prospective clients in marketing, sales, production, operations, intellectual properly, and contracts.
- Develops and fosters relationships with financial institutions.
- Provides community outreach to increase the visibility of Western Illinois University, the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs and the Illinois Small Business Development Center.
- Provides business advising to a diverse client group.
- Researches, interprets, and reviews small business feasibility studies.
- Assists clients with the acquisition of debt financing.
- Assists clients with the acquisition of venture capital.
- Establishes relationships with local chambers of commerce, economic development groups, units of government and other stakeholder organizations as directed and suggested by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
- Required Qualifications:
CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER:
- Master's degree in Business, Economics, Economic Development or related field AND five (5) year's small business ownership. Minimum eighteen (18) consecutive month's ownership in a single business.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Business or related field AND seven (7) year's small business ownership. Minimum eighteen (18) consecutive month's ownership in a single business.
- Supervision of at least one (1) full time employee during time of ownership.
- Prefer decision making authority for all aspects of small business operation during the time of business ownership, including the authority to hire and terminate employees.
- Prefer fiduciary responsibilities during the time of business ownership.
- Prefer direct, face to face, customer contact while owner of a small business.
- Starting Salary: $6,243 /monthly
