HEALTH SERVICES DIRECTOR
DEFINITION
THe Health Services Director reports directly to the Siskiyou County Superintendent of Schools. This position provides for the delivery of comprehensive school health services and related programs. This position is responsible for planning, initiating, and administering the school health services and programs, including supervision of the personnel performing school health services and education provided by the SCOE Health Services Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May include, but not limited to the following:
- Supervise, assign and evaluate SCOE Health Services staff
- Provide leadership and guidance on the interpretation of policy and procedures in the area of health and safety to SCOE administrative staff, district staff, and community members
- Assist in the development, monitoring, and implementation of SCOE and district policies and
- programs related to Illness and Injury Prevention Plans, Comprehensive School Safety Plans, and other risk management activities, as assigned
- Participate in leadership planning and implementation activities as directed by the County Superintendent of Schools
- Supervise and coordinate instruction in CPR/AED, First Aid for SCOE and school district staff
- Oversee the development and revision of Specialized Physical Healthcare Procedures
- Monitor and maintain a program for updating and maintaining student health records in
- accordance with state regulations
- •Collaborate with other Health Services staff to develop, implement, update, and modify health education curriculum and programs, including hygiene, nutrition, family life, AIDS/HIV, drug/tobacco prevention and other health education programs
- Develop and monitor Health Services budgets and purchasing
- Oversee and evaluate Health Services grant programs
- Align school nursing practices with SCOE Board Policies and California Education Code
- Establish and maintain programs for compliance with state immunization requirements, communicable disease identification/control, first grade Child Health and Disability Program physical exam requirements, Special Education Health Assessment, and mandated screening for Vision and Hearing
- Assist with completion of state and county mandated health reports
- Provide current information to Siskiyou County schools to comply with state mandated parent notifications
- Oversee the Tuberculosis Risk Assessments for SCOE employees
- Serve as program manager for health-related reimbursement programs, such as the LEA Medi-Cal Billing Option and Medi-Cal Administrative Activities, that include facilitation of required collaborative and advisory groups
- Serve as health liaison for SCOE State Preschool, Siskiyou Early Head Start, Special Education, School Attendance Review Board, School-Based Mental Health and Wellness Program, Community Schools and Emergency Preparedness programs, and other SCOE programs
- Attend IEP meetings for students with exceptional needs of an intensive nature, as needed
- Serve as the liaison or representative for health education and safety related matters to organizational, state, county and community agencies/organizations
- Serve as Credentialed School Nurse (CSN) when staffing patterns necessitate
- Precept or assign another CSN to precept new school nurses during their credentialing program
- implement and supervise unassigned epinephrine auto-injector and naloxone programs for school districts throughout Siskiyou County
- Serve on the School Attendance Review Board
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- California Administrative Services Credential or Certificate of Eligibility
- California School Nurse Services or Health Services Credential
- Five (5) years of demonstrated successful experience as a school nurse
- Current California Registered Nurse license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree
- Public Health Nurse license

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships in diverse settings
- Ability to lead, manage and supervise the implementation of health services in schools
- Knowledge of current legislation, regulations, and requirements as per local, state and federal education, and health and safety codes related to health services in schools
- Ability to supervise and direct personnel
- Ability to present to various audiences
- Demonstrate effective communication, leadership, organization, and public relations skills

- Persons performing service in this position classification will exert up to 25 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects

- Manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Proof of employment eligibility and verification of legal right to work in the United States in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act
- Valid State Issued Driver’s License
- Background clearance
- Tuberculosis (TB) clearance
