    General Description
    The purpose of this position is to serve as the primary administrator and advisor regarding student conduct issues that prosper student responsibility, civility and conflict resolution through the effective administration of the student code of conduct process while maintaining compliance with University policies, federal and state regulations.

    Essential Job Duties
    1. Oversee the enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct and all judicial processes and procedures therein, including the oversight and training of the University Conduct Council and its members;

    2. Assist with compliance and initiatives related to Title IX and related statutes and regulations, including the investigation and hearing process;

    3. Advise hearing officers, victims, and charged parties of scheduled hearings; provide follow-up to involved parties on recommendations and/or sanctions; Develop and oversee educational programs for student conduct sanctioning;

    4. Assist with Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) requirements, including but not limited to coordinating the online educational program for incoming students when necessary;

    5. Educate the University faculty, staff and/or students on student conduct policies, procedures and guidelines regarding student conflict/behavior, including disruptive classroom behavior; Promote online reporting;

    6. Conduct yearly review of the Student Code of Conduct and propose updates and revisions when necessary;

    7. Oversee the unit budget and allocate funds according to need;

    8. Embody approachability and demonstrate sensitivity in working with students of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, sexual orientations, and backgrounds; Coordinate referrals to other offices and departments;

    9. Stay informed about best practices and the federal guidelines and guidance related to University compliance; Ensure that the faculty, staff, and student handbooks reflect compliance with the University Policy and Procedure; Maintain careful and detailed records about disclosures, interim measures, informal resolutions, and formal complaints;

    10. Oversee, coordinate, and ensure investigations of reports and complaints of misconduct are adequate, reliable, timely, confidential, and impartial; review proposed sanctions for misconduct before they are imposed to ensure that they are reasonably calculated to stop the misconduct and prevent its recurrence;

    11. Ensure ongoing compliance by collecting and analyzing data, writing comprehensive reports, and maintaining records of investigations; Evaluate student’s request for confidentiality in the context of the University’s responsibility to provide a safe and nondiscriminatory environment for all students;

    12. identify systemic problems relating to student general complaints and determine whether campus-wide resources should be adopted in response, including review and revision of the University’s policies, increased monitoring, supervision, or security at locations where misconduct is reported to occur, and increased education and prevention efforts to targeted populations;

    13. Collaborate with leadership and campus constituencies to disseminate information, redesign processes, and support the University’s investigative processes; collaborate and coordinate with compliance partners within the department and across the institution to support the University’s overlapping compliance needs and responsibilities; Involve and advise the UM Administration as appropriate;

    14. Serve as a member of the University’s Treat Assessment Team (TAT), Emergency Response Team, and Care Team by reporting relevant student conduct situations, preparing promotional information, and overseeing all documentation in Maxient;

    15. Consult with Campus Police each month to ensure compliance with Federal Clery reporting regulations;

    16. Oversee and maintain student files and the accompanying database in such as way that statistical information can be obtained; Compile reports of cases for evaluation and assessment purposes;

    17. Take appropriate actions based on relevant policies and procedures regarding student conflict/disputes; Communicate with students and parents as necessary;

    18. Maintain state and federal policies vital to the area of Student Affairs; develop and maintain filing system for judicial affairs, disciplinary cases, and incident reports;

    19. Oversee and assist with the development of a website specifically for student conduct, including posting of information related to Federal compliance, including Department of Education Drug-Free School and Campuses;

    20. Oversee the University’s Maxient reporting system and manage incident reports for TAT, CARE, Student Success, and other areas and refer to the appropriate campus department/resource, if needed;

    21. Assist in the creation, review, and editing of various publications, flyers, or promotional/informational materials both online and in print;

    22. Develop and prepare yearly electronic evaluation materials;

    23. Assist with special projects and research for Enrollment and Student Affairs as they arise;

    24. Assist with the oversight of student workers within the Office of the VP/Dean when necessary;

    25. Maintain applicable knowledge of basic office policies and procedures, as well as University policies and procedures;

    26. Maintain an understanding of University Department organization and hierarchy and serve on University committees as needed;

    27. Communicate with all areas of the University, including students and external constituencies, requiring judgment, diplomacy, and discretion.

    Proficient knowledge of student conduct process and best practices, state, federal and judicial policies
    Knowledge of Violence Against Women Act and Title IX;
    Basic skills in budget management;
    Advanced understanding of databases, including Maxient, and how they can be used;
    Advanced software skills in MS Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint; the ability to quickly learn and use other software tools;
    Advanced graphic design abilities in layout;
    Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse public;
    Advanced knowledge of website design and Frontpage;
    Customer service skills;
    Ability to effectively organize meetings and events;
    Ability to apply prudent judgment, diplomacy, and discretion.

    The educational requirement for this position is: A Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Education, Counseling or related field is required.
