SALARY: $66,950 annually
SUMMARY: Attorney to work within the Allegheny County Office of Conflict Counsel to represent adult defendants within the criminal justice system by organizing and maintaining each case for direct appeal as well as litigation under the Post-Conviction Relief Act. The Allegheny County Office of Conflict Counsel represents clients who cannot, due to a conflict of interest, be represented by the Allegheny County Public Defender’s Office. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee; as such, no other contracts for employment to perform legal services will be permitted.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
* A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
* Licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
* Excellent organizational and analytical skills with the ability to work independently
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Experience working in the criminal justice system preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Organizing and maintaining cases for direct appeals to the Superior and Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania as well as Post-Conviction Relief Act Petitions
* Drafting appellate briefs and petitions.
* Preparing each case as required for full and competent representation of the client. This includes client contact, legal research and all preparations and pleadings
* Correspondence with criminal defendants in local jails and state correctional institutions and interacting with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
* Familiarization the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure, Appellate Procedure, and the Post-Conviction Relief Act
