    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    Hussey seeks a hands-on Mechanical Engineer or Civil/Structural Engineer with the aptitude, attitude and drive to be successful designing customer specific seating equipment to meet the multiple event configuration needs of spectator seating venues. Hussey provides in depth training to help propel your career forward as a new engineer in an environment that supports continued learning and career growth.

    At any given time, working with a team, this individual may be leading and supporting several projects at different stages of their lifecycle. It is essential for this individual to quickly identify what work is required, develop effective work plans, and deliver high quality results expeditiously. This individual may also have ownership of a project throughout its lifecycle, from time of sale to completed installation. As such, this role requires finding creative solutions to problems and working cross functionally with departments throughout the company.

    DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop customer specific design solutions for Husseys telescopic and chair seating product lines. Focus will be on developing well-designed, manufacturable, cost-effective solutions.
    • Create code compliant submittal drawings for customer approval that reflect the product configurations to be provided.
    • Work with project managers, architects, general contractors to obtain all information required to proceed with detail design development and engineering.
    • Travel to job sites to assist with 3D building scans and capture building measurements.
    • Heavily utilize 3D design software, AutoCAD, and other in-house applications to design and fit the complete seating equipment solution into the building space.
    • Complete analysis of the platform structure and related designs using structural analysis software, Mathcad, and other tools.
    • Prototype, test and validate new designs.
    • Produce part drawings, instructions and other data required to manufacture and install the components of the seating solution into the final site configuration.
    • Provide guidance during the manufacturing process of custom designs
    • Provide technical support throughout the installation, including call support and travelling to the site to assist with custom aspects of the installation.

    COMPETENCIES: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

    • BS in engineering.
    • Record of professional or academic success, and other activities that attest to strong work ethic, leadership, creativity, and high standards.
    • Proficient in 3D modeling and in 2D AutoCAD.
    • Design and manufacturing experience utilizing the following materials and manufacturing processes preferred: structural steel, plywood, sheet steel stamping and forming, welding.
    • Mechanical aptitude fasteners, machine design, hydraulics.
    • Understanding and experience with quick turn-around prototyping and testing. Ability to develop test plans, conduct testing, write test reports, analyze results, and develop recommendations that are supported by data.
    • Adept in structural and stress analysis utilizing hand calculations, spreadsheet tools and / or commercial FEA software.
    • Desire for continuous learning, willing to accept new challenges and ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
    • Demonstrated project management skills. Ability to plan, set priorities, and carry-out detail-oriented work to achieve results.
    • Support corporate goal for continuous improvement bringing new ideas to reduce waste, improve production capabilities, and enhance performance.
    • Ability to reach out and work cross functionally within the Engineering department and across the organization.
    • Willingness for occasional, short duration travel.
    • Ability to work hands on in the lab and in the field.
    • Preference may be given to those with EIT and willingness to work toward PE.
