    POSITION SUMMARY
    As a family-owned business, this company is known for its extensive footprint in the commercial and heavy civil project sector. The Director of Operations & Business Development plans, develops, and directs all aspects of the organization’s operational policies, objectives, and initiatives to ensure optimization and compliance with established standards and regulations. As second-in-command, this vital position reports directly to the Vice President of the company and plays a pivotal role in the leadership and growth of the organization. As the Director of Operations & Business Development, you will oversee and optimize our construction operations to ensure efficiency, safety, and profitability. The incumbent will be responsible for managing all aspects of project execution, resource allocation, and strategic planning to drive the company's profitability. The growth path for this position is to become the successor of the Vice President.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Collaborates with the President, Vice President, and members of the management team to help formulate and execute internal policies and procedures.
    • Works closely with the CFO to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts.
    • Reviews the planning, budgeting, and implementation of projects.
    • Analyzes performance, costs, and operations to maintain progress toward the achievement of goals and objectives.
    • Identifies growth opportunities of existing divisions and pursues other business opportunities to develop and secure new customers, contracts, and scopes of work.
    • Creates long-term business strategies that align with the organization’s core ideologies.
    • Directs and supervises work of administration, superintendents, project managers, and engineers to establish operational priorities and maintain satisfactory relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
    • Handles critical decision-making and delivers routine updates to the President regarding the company's performance.
    • Performs job bidding and project estimating tasks, managing all elements with regard to creating customer quotes and preparing cost estimates.
    • Develops and maintains customer relationships to enhance the company’s ability to procure projects, reduce risk, and ensure operational efficiency.
    • Ability to adapt in a small business with ease.
    • Performs special projects and completes all other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the organization.
    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • Proven experience as a Project Manager and/or at VP level within the construction industry.
    • 15 years of experience in leading construction operations, personnel management, business development, pre-construction, and field management.
    • 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a proven track record of managing teams and large-scale projects.
    • Strong technical knowledge of heavy civil construction, including grading, paving, clearing, excavation, drainage, and underground utilities construction.
    • Must have the ability to read and interpret drawings, use laser levels, figure grades, and compute ratios and percentages as needed.
    • Thorough understanding of construction codes, working knowledge of all trades and OSHA safety requirements, and familiarity with DOT standards and protocols.
    • Advanced knowledge of all phases of concrete construction including installation of rebar and post tension systems, concrete placement, formwork systems, and layout.
    • Proven ability to make decisions and follow through on commitments while successfully managing multiple tasks of varying degrees of scope and complexity.
    • Knowledge and understanding of construction accounting, and the ability to read and analyze financial statements such as the P&L’s.
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with a successful track record of leading and developing teams.
    • Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively work with all levels of the organization, as well as customers and subcontractors.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook).
    • Willingness to travel to oversee projects and meet with clients.
    • Bilingual in English & Spanish is heavily favored.
    MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND TRAINING
    • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, construction management, or related degree heavily favored.
    • Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) preferred.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation desired.
    • OSHA 10 hour or OSHA 30 hour for Construction training a plus.
    MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Collaborates with the Company's President and Vice President to appoint, direct, and manage superintendents and department heads.

    • Active and valid driver’s license.
    • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
