Applications Development Director directs all activities and develops policies and procedures related to the design, analysis, testing, coding, and implementation of applications. Enhances operations by establishing metrics, analyzing processes, and implementing standard methodologies, tools, and best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables. Being an Applications Development Director oversees review of development proposals, projects, timelines, resources, and costs. Develops feedback processes for peer reviews, code reviews, and design reviews. Additionally, Applications Development Director establishes a performance culture by incorporating individual and team coaching and mentoring to achieve excellence. May develop and manage outsourcing budgets, vendor relationships, or off-shore resources. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Applications Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Applications Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     ABOUT INDIANA AFTERSCHOOL NETWORK

    The Indiana Afterschool Network (IAN) wants every young person in Indiana to have the best chance at making a great life for themselves and a positive impact in their communities. We believe out-of-school time programming (i.e., before school, after school, and during the summer) can play a major role in that.  For more than two decades, IAN has been committed to out-of-school time (OST) organizations through supports and resources that promote continuous quality improvement of programs, increasing families’ access to OST programming, and advocacy that help to shape the environments in which OST providers serve.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    A critical part of the IAN team, the Director of Development is responsible for building a resource development strategy that results in both funding to support the organization’s capacity to serve Indiana’s OST field and projects/initiatives aimed at strengthening and promoting the sustainability of the OST field.  Working with leadership and cross-functional teams, the Director of Development establishes aggressive goals, designs and implements engagement strategies, supports team and board engagement in development efforts, and measures impact.

    The Director of Development must live in Indiana.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES 

    Strategy Design & Implementation

    • Create and lead implementation of a development plan to align with organizational priorities and the needs of the broader OST field.  Update the plan as needed.  Use data to inform development strategy.
    • Develop and lead prospecting and management strategies for engaging and advancing priority partners.
    • Remain up to date on industry best practices and leading efforts for engaging major donors, corporate sponsors, and grantors.

    Development Engagement

    • Manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation partners who are committed to the success of the organization and the broader growth and advancement of the OST field.
    • Lead the drafting, submission, and stewardship of grant proposals for the organization, engaging other team members as needed.
    • Spearhead organizational events including but not limited to IAN’s annual Summit on Out-of-School Learning and donor/partner events.
    • Establish and implement a robust stewardship and communication plan to ensure donors stay up to date and engaged in key organizational happenings.
    • Provide training and support to all partners engaged in engagement in development efforts.
    • Facilitate education for partner grantees and members to help build sustainability in the field.

    Goal Setting & Impact Measurement

    • Set and manage aggressive annual fundraising goals in partnership with IAN leadership and board of directors.
    • Manage IAN’s grants calendar and ensure the maintenance of current records, including contact management, grant tracking and reporting.
    • Meet regularly with IAN leaders to assess account plans, review strategies, prepare for upcoming engagements and track progress.
    • Institute tools and metrics for evaluating and reporting on donor engagement and the efficacy of development efforts.

    DEMONSTRATED SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Must demonstrate ability to work in and promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our providers, partners, and employees in which every individual feels respected and valued.
    • 5 years of experience in fundraising, development, donor cultivation, grant solicitation, or another related field.
    • Experience developing and executing a comprehensive and fundraising strategy.
    • Excellent communication, storytelling, and influencing skills.
    • Familiarity with philanthropy and how nonprofits function.
    • Keen ability to dig into data and translate into actionable insights.
    • Able to foster strong collaborative working relationships.
    • Adept at completing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience degree in marketing, philanthropy, or a related field.
    • Passion for youth work and an understanding of the connection between in-school and OST learning
    • Willingness to travel throughout the state for development and partnership-building activities.
    • Valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
