Applications Development Director directs all activities and develops policies and procedures related to the design, analysis, testing, coding, and implementation of applications. Enhances operations by establishing metrics, analyzing processes, and implementing standard methodologies, tools, and best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables. Being an Applications Development Director oversees review of development proposals, projects, timelines, resources, and costs. Develops feedback processes for peer reviews, code reviews, and design reviews. Additionally, Applications Development Director establishes a performance culture by incorporating individual and team coaching and mentoring to achieve excellence. May develop and manage outsourcing budgets, vendor relationships, or off-shore resources. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Applications Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     The purpose of the Director Enterprise Applications, position is to provide strategy, leadership, and direction for the delivery of Enterprise Application Services within King's Hawaiian. This position has overall responsibility for the execution and success of service delivery across the breadth of Manufacturing, Supply Chain, HR, Finance, Plant Operations, and other corporate departments applications as well as alignment to enterprise-wide initiatives, such as Workday and SAP. Primary services provided in the Enterprise Applications Operations space are Application Production Support, Application Lifecycle Management, and Support for Vendor delivered Departmental Applications. This position works closely with the leadership team, key business stakeholders and internal customers to ensure organizational alignment with business strategy, ensuring the appropriate use of team resources, methodologies, tools, and metrics within Enterprise Applications. The Director of Enterprise Applications manages a team comprised of system architects and analysts that develop, deliver, and sustain King's core enterprise business applications. As we grow, the Director of Enterprise Applications will focus on development, deployment, and support of software applications enabling the King's Hawaiian Digital Transformation and ongoing business process optimization.


    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Leadership and Strategy Responsibilities:

    • Lead the enterprise applications organization to the successful delivery of business outcomes.
    • Manage the functional and technical budget, with ongoing focus on personnel, vendor, and capital expenditures.
    • Build strong working relationships with business leaders to ensure software engineering teams meet expectations and contribute to the achievement of business goals.
    • Collaborate with Data & Technology Services and business leaders to develop short- and long-term strategic plans.
    • Support and facilitate innovative and experimental software development work to test new ideas, within bounded cost and time frames.
    • Provide leadership, vision, and direction for the software engineering organization.
    • Work with architects to design, manage, and/or execute roadmaps.
    • Be a champion for Data Governance with Enterprise Applications and ensure the team is maintaining good data practices.
    • Explore innovations and trends in technology for institutional applicability.

    Talent Management Responsibilities:

    • Develop workforce strategy to meet the organization's current and future technical and functional needs through developing, hiring, and/or sourcing talent.
    • Manage resource allocation across teams to maximize business impact of resources and ensure each team has the skills and capabilities needed to achieve its objectives.
    • Manage functional and technical talent, playing a key role in performance management and compensation processes, role and competency definition, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
    • Partner with the People department to create learning and capability building opportunities aligned to the organization's strategic plan; provide mentorship and coaching to the Enterprise Apps functional and technical employees to help them grow in their career.
    • Facilitate collaboration and partnership across the enterprise apps teams and stakeholders.
    • Build a culture that supports learning, collaboration, transparency, and inclusiveness.
    • Manage employee engagement and promote a compelling employer value proposition to retain software engineering staff.

    Oversight Responsibilities for Enterprise Apps Team Activities:

    • Implement and champion best practices and modern software development methods and tools
    • Lead software engineering teams and other stakeholders to set goals for improving code quality, maintainability, security, and scalability. Monitor progress against these goals.
    • Implement and manage software development status reporting, metrics, and benchmarks.
    • Manage collaboration with Infrastructure and Operations to ensure software performs well in production and meets SLAs.
    • Work with the Chief Information Officer to ensure software is effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.
    • Oversee management of relationships with consultants, vendors, and contractors and support negotiation of statements of work and business terms with suppliers.
    • Collaborate with Infrastructure and Security, Business Solutions, DTS Ops and Governance and Business Transformation and Data & Analytics leaders, oversee DevOps processes and practices, including automating the handoff of code releases from development to operations.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

    • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
    • 10 years of experience in ERP implementation and application development, deployment, and support, with at least 4 years of experience managing architects.
    • Supply chain, food manufacturing process background is preferred.

    ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE)

    • Proficient Portfolio and project management experience.
    • Proficient Full System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) for the implementation of technology-based business solutions.
    • Expert knowledge of ERP functionality, data, and integration capabilities, including extending functionality outside the core product.
    • Strong customer service orientation, including the ability to work effectively in a professional manner with technology teams, business stakeholders, end users, leaders, and others outside the organization.
    • Expert Computer programming languages, utilities and applications used in Consumer Product Goods.
    • Expert data management practices, data governance, data warehousing and reporting.
    • Expert Web application development, maintenance, and integration.
    • Proficient advanced principles and techniques of systems analysis, design, programming, and documentation.
    • Proficient Management system backup, system continuity, data protection, and security techniques
    • Proficient business analysis and process reengineering skills.
    • Proficient ability to plan, organize and direct daily operations of assigned areas to achieve outcomes in the defined time frame.
    • Proficient ability to analyze and evaluate data processing programs and make recommendations/modifications.
    • Proficient ability to perform difficult and complex programming in the analysis of systems requirements and development of computer applications.
    • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficient ability to work well independently as well as with co-workers, peers, management team, and executives.
    • Proficient ability to handle multiple competing priorities effectively and efficiently.
    • Proficient ability and desire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and agile team environment.
    • Proficient ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
    • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
