Applications Development Director directs all activities and develops policies and procedures related to the design, analysis, testing, coding, and implementation of applications. Enhances operations by establishing metrics, analyzing processes, and implementing standard methodologies, tools, and best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables. Being an Applications Development Director oversees review of development proposals, projects, timelines, resources, and costs. Develops feedback processes for peer reviews, code reviews, and design reviews. Additionally, Applications Development Director establishes a performance culture by incorporating individual and team coaching and mentoring to achieve excellence. May develop and manage outsourcing budgets, vendor relationships, or off-shore resources. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Applications Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Applications Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Responsible for development, delivery, and support of the digital product(s). He/she will work closely with IT PMO, business partners, and others in IT to provide quality digital solutions to meet business needs. Key Performance Indicators: Product delivery metrics – (velocity, code coverage, code stability, vulnerability, actual security incident, defects, etc.) Service level performance metrics – (reliability, availability, maintainability, etc.) Problem resolution & RCA Colleague retention and engagement Meet CapEx/ OpEx utilization target Develop and maintain digital product roadmap (at least 1 year out) Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Work closely with the VP of Digital Products, business partners, IT PMO and other stakeholders (QA, operation, etc.) to deliver quality digital products to meet business and operational needs Building and managing high-performing product teams (direct reports, indirect reports, and third-party service providers) that are fully accountable for delivering and supporting quality digital products Responsible for managing and coordinating analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance of software and applications (SDLC) Identify key metrics (KPIs) for new features and socialize at all levels from within product team, to tech delivery partners, to IT executive leadership team Develop software with security-first and mindset Implement shift-left strategy for quality improvement Define the digital strategy, vision, and roadmap in alignment with business goals. Support developing a 3-year product roadmap. Help senior IT leadership with building Annual Operating Plan Develop short and long-range product and service strategies and plans. Oversees the execution of operating plans (within budget) for specified areas of product responsibility. Develop operational policies to ensure competitive advantage in requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of software solutions. Responsible developing and maintaining runbooks/documentations for product support Overseeing the maintenance to existing applications (non-future state) where needed CANDIDATE SUMMARY Required Experience: 15 years of software/application development experience 8-10 years of IT management experience developing and delivering digital products. 5 years’ experience managing multiple people leaders (manager and sr. manager) Has worked in three or more of the following IT functions: Application Development, Application Support, Application Architecture, Service Delivery, COTS software/vendor management. Required Leadership Traits and Characteristics: Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills Collaborative and servant leader Foster inclusive culture Communicate effectively with your team, peers and stakeholders (business, external vendors etc.). Problem solving/RCA (root cause analysis), and proactive (prevent issue proactively) mindset.
