Being an Applications Development Director oversees review of development proposals, projects, timelines, resources, and costs. Develops feedback processes for peer reviews, code reviews, and design reviews. Additionally, Applications Development Director establishes a performance culture by incorporating individual and team coaching and mentoring to achieve excellence. May develop and manage outsourcing budgets, vendor relationships, or off-shore resources. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Applications Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Applications Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     JOB DESCRIPTION: DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

    REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT

    SALARY RANGE $75,000 - $90,000, commensurate with qualifications; Eligible for a bonus

    SCHEDULE: Full-Time, Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with some flexibility) with occasional nights and weekends. 


    JOB SUMMARY: The Development Director will develop and implement our fundraising strategy to support our mission of empowering families and improving children’s lives. Use strategic development, fundraising, donor engagement, capital campaign, event planning, and building connections to support nonprofit programs. Develop donor relationships, lead a development team and coordinate board fundraising committees.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Not an Exhaustive List):

    • Promotes and adheres to CDC safety work rules and regulations.
    • To perform the essential functions of this position, regular and punctual attendance is expected.
    • The essential functions, responsibilities, and duties of the Development Director are:

    Leadership and Strategy

    • As a member of the leadership team reporting to the Executive Director, collaborates with employees, volunteers, the leadership team, and the board, to carry out the organization’s mission. 
    • Supervises, coaches, mentors, and supports a team of two (2) including a Development Coordinator and a Communications and Marketing Specialist.
    • Creates an inclusive and supportive team/workplace culture, where people from all backgrounds are valued and celebrated for what they bring to the table. Centers diversity, inclusion, and equity in all aspects of work. 
    • Develops and implements the organization’s fundraising and communications strategy and plan, ensuring program goals are consistently funded. 
    • Continuously assesses the organization’s needs, identifies opportunities, and implements strategies to improve community awareness and increase funding. 
    • Advises the executive director, board, volunteers, and staff on fundraising strategies, policies, and best practices.
    • Manages volunteers to facilitate events, community outreach, communication, and fundraising activities. 
    • Establishes, tracks, and reports on key performance metrics for development, fundraising, and communications.

    Fundraising and Donor Engagement

    • Creates and implements a comprehensive annual fundraising plan to support the organization’s goals. 
    • Collaborates with the Executive Director to lead program forecasting, budgeting, and fundraising to meet program needs.  
    • Conducts major donor cultivation through campaigns and ongoing stewardship. 
    • Establish goals and strategies for donor engagement and stewardship, including new donor acquisition, donor re-engagement, donor retention, and major gifts. 
    • Creates innovative fundraising strategies to implement throughout the giving year.
    • Manages community gifts, monthly gifts, planned giving, and in-kind donations. 
    • Plans and implements multiple fundraising events throughout the year. 
    • Identifies, writes, and applies regularly for grant opportunities. Manages grant reports ensuring that programmatic results are in alignment with grant requirements.
    • Maintains accurate donor information in donor software and report on trends. 
    • Creates web-based donation and social media campaigns. 

    Communications/Marketing (20%)

    • Oversees design of print and digital media, including but not limited to annual report, program brochures, impact report, Board of Director’s Blog, and newsletters. 
    • Manages and supports appropriate staff with online communications including website, social media, and peer-to-peer.
    • Coordinates with executive director and press to further the Center’s mission, programs, and successes. 
    • Authors advocacy letters, organizational publications, presentations, reports, website content. 
    • Attends community events to engage the community in support for the organization. 
    • Other reasonable and related duties as needed.

    • Works independently while understanding the necessity for communicating effectively with other employees, customers, and suppliers.

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

    • At least five (5) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience. 
    • Certified Fund Raising Executive Certification (CFRE) preferred, but not required. 
    • Proven track record of success with fundraising, including events, capital campaigns, donations, grants, and project management.
    • Excellent communication skills, invoking strong donor confidence in writing, in person, and over the phone.
    • Ability to work collaboratively on a team, demonstrate strong empathetic interpersonal skills, and establish and maintain productive internal and external working relationships. 
    • Ability to consistently provide accurate, thorough, and quality work. 
    • Highly responsible and accountable. Committed to protecting confidential information. 
    • Ability to be cooperative, supportive, and adaptable to change.
    • Experience with MS Office Suite, donor database software (we use GreaterGiving), and social media. 
    • A commitment to the Children’s Developmental Center’s mission and values and the ability to apply those values in your work. 
    • Must have the ability to commute locally for events (up to 20% of the time.) Must maintain a WA State Driver’s License and vehicle insurance. 
    • A background check and pre-employment drug screening are required and will be administered after a contingent offer of employment has been accepted.
    • Due to working in a building where children are present, COVID-19 vaccination and a negative Tuberculin test is required.
