    Human Resource Manager (Ithaca, NY - Hybrid)

    Performance Systems Development (PSD) is looking for a Human Resource Manager to support our 100 team in various states as well as various departments and disciplines. We’re seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional, who will be responsible for overseeing all employee engagements and promoting a positive work environment. We are eager to find a human resource manager who connects easily with people and has a detail-oriented mindset for handling the dynamic nature of today’s workforce.

    PSD is a rapidly growing national leader in the building science and energy efficiency industries; in 2023, we’ve reached 100 employees and are celebrating our 25th anniversary. PSD’s passionate team of energy efficiency professionals works hard every day to develop and deliver creative and powerful solutions that drive change in the way buildings use energy. PSD provides a whole-systems approach to energy efficiency strategies through our work on advancing energy policies, designing and delivering cost-effective energy efficiency programs, and building software tools to streamline data tracking and reporting. Our core business efforts span three major areas: 1) the delivery of high-impact energy efficiency programs; 2) workforce development and industry training; and 3) the design and development of systems that create, manage and analyze energy efficiency data.


    What will you do?

    The HR Manager oversees and manages all employee-related issues. Responsibilities include managing the HR team, including but not limited to, recruiting, onboarding/offboarding, compensation and benefits, training and career development, employee and labor relations, compliance, time and attendance, and performance management.  The HR Manager also researches and implements HR best practices as well as develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and various state labor laws and human rights laws. PSD’s 100 staff are primarily located in the Northeast and Midwest but are spread across 16 states. The HR manager is responsible for bridging the management team and employee relations, often remotely, by addressing demands, grievances, and other issues striving for a positive and fair outcome.

    In addition, this role works with our leadership team to promote corporate values and help shape a positive culture throughout our Company. This position is important to business success as you are the driver of the message that our team members are our most important asset.  


    Position responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: 

    · Establish recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding best practices and implement systems and procedures. Train HR staff in processes and best practices. 

    · Nurture a positive working environment by working together with managers and employees for conflict resolution through coaching and/or mentoring. 

    · Work with managers to determine progressive discipline plans if necessary.

    · Oversee the performance management program. Analyze performance reviews for trends, common themes of needed training, and performance issues to address with managers and staff.

    · Implement career development plans as needed with management to meet the needs of individual staff.

    · Stay current on all state and federal labor laws to ensure compliance. 

    · Create new policies and procedures for the HR Department, as needed

    · Make recommendations to the executive team on changes that can improve retention, morale, and culture. Implement as appropriate.

    · Maintain expert knowledge of all company benefits programs while researching and recommending any new benefits as needed.

    · Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics, and procedures across PSD.


    This position will be out of our Ithaca office. It is hybrid position which includes 20-40% of time in the office and the remainder of time working remotely.


    Need to have:

    · 5 years of experience as an HR manager 

    · SHRM certification strongly desired

    · In depth knowledge of labor law and HR Best Practices

    · Experience with providing leadership and direction to a goal driven team.

    · Experience with coaching and mentoring in conflict resolution and negotiation.

    · Ability to architect HR policies and procedures

    · Understanding and skills of promoting culture and values throughout various departments and disciplines in an organization.

    · Excellent active listening and presentation skills, as well as having a positive attitude. 

    · Ability to build collaborative relationships and foster teamwork. 

    · Planning and execution skills


    Physical Demands: Frequent use of the computer requiring periods of sitting and close audio-visual concentration. Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations. 

    Work Environment: Office work is performed in an open and collaborative environment.
