Plans and designs the configuration of products for initial implementation or the deployment of custom solutions, enhancements, or upgrades. Additionally, Applications Engineer troubleshoots problems and oversees the completion of repairs, workarounds, or customizations. Delivers technical product training to customers and internal audiences. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Applications Engineer work is closely managed.     The Applications Specialist supports all departments at the Nassau contract for all application databases and the tools used to access these databases.  Responsibilities include managing end user applications, managing data, developing reports, and troubleshooting data issues; working directly with the IT and operational team to produce tools to help improve performance; understanding and anticipating the needs of various stakeholders in order to properly support the group’s mission with data; understanding and managing the various systems supporting HR, timekeeping, payroll, scheduling, operations, safety and maintenance, etc. 
    The Applications Specialist will report to the Director of Technology & Innovation. 
     
    RESPONSIBILITIES: 
      
    • Leading or assisting in the implementation of new software applications, ensuring that they are properly configured and integrated with existing systems.
    • Providing training to end-users on how to use the software effectively and efficiently. This may involve creating training materials, conducting workshops, or offering one-on-one support.
    • Identifying and resolving technical issues or bugs in the software, either independently or by collaborating with software developers or technical support teams.
    • Tailoring software configurations to meet the specific needs and requirements of the organization. This may involve modifying settings, creating custom reports, or developing new features.
    • Creating and maintaining documentation for software applications, including user guides, technical specifications, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Testing software updates or new releases to ensure they meet quality standards.
    • Monitoring the performance of software applications and identifying opportunities for optimization or improvement. This may involve analyzing usage data, conducting performance tests, or implementing performance-tuning strategies.
    • Work directly with external system software project management and technicians to investigate, diagnose, and implement any necessary changes to data structure or physical components.
    • Ensuring that software applications comply with relevant security standards and regulations and implementing appropriate security measures to protect sensitive data.
    • Staying up to date with the latest trends and developments in software technology, and continuously expanding knowledge and skills through training and professional development activities.
    • Ensure all reporting requirements are met and that all interfaces between systems are maintained and running properly. 
      
    QUALIFICATIONS: 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or a combination of related education and experience. 
    • 3-5 Years of experience supporting applications, new software implementation, data analysis.
    • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Management & Microsoft Access
    • Understanding of development tools and their correlation to database structures.
    • Must have excellent presentation skills with experience in operating a database, word processing software, spreadsheet and a graphics package.
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability and willingness to learn applications and provide support.
    • Analytical problem-solving skills along with ability to solve problems in a practical and pragmatic manner.
    • Ability to work efficiently and accurately with little direct supervision.
    • Must be able to handle competing priorities with the ability to identify urgent and critical priorities for the business.
