Applications Engineer supports both the pre-sales scoping process and the post-sales design and implementation activities for complex technical products. Prepares and delivers sales demos and facilitates technical requirements gathering sessions. Being a Applications Engineer reviews customer technical specifications, recommends specific products or services, and estimates cost and effort for implementation. Plans and designs the configuration of products for initial implementation or the deployment of custom solutions, enhancements, or upgrades. Additionally, Applications Engineer troubleshoots problems and oversees the completion of repairs, workarounds, or customizations. Delivers technical product training to customers and internal audiences. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Applications Engineer work is closely managed.   • Position Summary

    Responsible for coordinating and executing activities around the following: standardization of manufacturing processes, manufacturing process improvement initiatives, rationalization of new equipment, implementation of new equipment, research and development of new manufacturing processes and technologies that will increase speed, improve quality, and reduce cost.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Process Standardization
      1. Standardize the sequence of machine operations, fixturing methods, programming techniques, cutting tools, machine speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, tool holders, and preferred methods to machine different materials.
      2. Standardize tooling/fixtures in order to minimize or eliminate change over time. Goals of Single Minute Exchange of Dies or less (SMED).
      3. Develop and implement standards, work instructions, procedures and policies for manufacturing in the engineering and manufacturing departments.
      4. Develop Technical Publications that provide documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, specifications, and training to tell others about how processes, equipment, or parts are to be fabricated, assembled, maintained, or used.
      5. Recommends and implements process changes in order to improve cost, delivery, quality.
      6. Utilize and enhance Perfekta preferred manufacturing methods and enforces current standards.
      7. Collaborate on development and enforcement of preventative maintenance programs.
    2. Continuous Improvement
      1. Direct, review, and approve product manufacturing strategies and changes.
      2. Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change.
      3. Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
      4. Modify or direct the modification of existing programs to enhance efficiency.
      5. Troubleshoot and determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about it.
    3. Project Management
      1. Manage new equipment and process improvement projects to ensure that project complete on time, within budget and meet the goals and expectations of the project. Lead project teams made up of team members from other departments and disciplines. 
      2. Develop Project Schedules in MS Project and utilize stand project management tools to ensure expectations are communicated on a regular basis and progress is tracked to schedule.
      3. Develop Project budgets and manage activities and the decision process to ensure adherence to budgets.
    4. Leadership and Communications
      1. Report progress and projects weekly to Leadership Team.
      2. Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
      3. Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
      4. Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors.
      5. Report progress and projects weekly to Leadership Team.
      6. Motivate teams to work together in the most efficient manner.
      7. Mitigate team conflict and communication problems.
    5. Technology
      1. Maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential application on client engagements.
      2. Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to your job.
      3. Remain on the forefront of emerging industry practices.

    Position Requirements

    • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Industrial or Technology Engineering or 4 years manufacturing work experience in a machining environment.
    • Extensive knowledge and experience in machining, inspection, GD&T, NC Programming methodologies, preventative maintenance, tooling design, assembly, and lean manufacturing methodologies.
    • Experience and training in value stream mapping, flow charting, and work instruction authoring.
    • Working knowledge of MS Office Applications including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Visio
    • Familiarity MRP systems and fundamentals.
