Applications Engineering Manager manages all solutions support activities, including the pre-sales scoping process and the post-sales design and implementation activities for complex technical products. Oversees sales demo preparation and delivery and facilitates technical requirements gathering sessions. Being a Applications Engineering Manager ensures the review of customer technical specifications is accurate and provides solid recommendations of specific products or services. Leads the planning and design of product configuration, custom solutions, enhancements, or upgrades and directs the delivery of problem resolution, repairs, or workarounds.     Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as Engineering Deputy Manager to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.

    The successful candidate will assist the Engineering Manager (EM) in directing Engineering Department operations and serve as the alternate focal point for integration of the department's broad, technically diverse disciplines. Assist the EM in serving as interpretive authority for issues related to the full scope of departmental activities, including: design, construction, start-up, operation, configuration management, surface and underground engineering, fire protection and safety basis. Will assist the Engineering Manager with management direction for the department's day-to-day operations. Ensure operational integration of functional units and assure effective interface with other SIMCO organizations, CBFO, various stakeholder organizations and corporate organizations. Serve as an expert interpretive authority for all matters related to the Engineering department to ensure effective, consistent strategies. Integrate information from a broad range of functional experts and provide strategic input to the engineering manager. Facilitate effective communications within the department. Assure compliance with applicable DOE Orders, regulations, national codes and standards and laws related to departmental work scope. Maintain visible commitment to achieving excellence in safety, health, and environmental practices. Provide innovative solutions to complex problems that are based on best available technology, international state-of-the-art methods, processes and procedures. Function as team leader of assigned projects to determine possible solutions to imminent operational, technical or administrative activities. Analyze possible solutions, determining pros and cons, and presents recommendations to the Engineering Manager.

    Exempt Salary Grade (38-41)

    Minimum Requirements: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.

    • Bachelors degree in an Engineering or Science discipline with ten (10) years of relevant experience is required.
    • One (1) year of experience at a DOE Hazard Category 1 or 2 Facility and three (3) years of supervisory experience.
    • Must have broad, experience-based knowledge of facility operations and engineering principles, methods and associated regulatory requirements. Broad knowledge of company practices and policies, managerial practices, project management, scheduling, personnel supervision and development techniques.

    Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

    • Professional Engineering (PE) License.
    • Previous WIPP Project experience.
