The Engineering Manager provides project development and execution, business development, resource recruiting and development and customer/vendor development. This role serves as the office's subject matter expert on project execution and quality assurance. The Engineering Manager is the lead advisor on these matters. This is done using strong project execution methodologies, established procedures and using good judgment in making adaptations and modifications. This is a leadership role that requires strong technical ability, communication skills, the ability to mentor others and establish relationships with clients and vendors.
Primary Responsibilities:
The position requires the ability to deliver outstanding results throughout a range of complex and small control system projects. The candidate must have the ability to conceptualize, detail and implement control systems for various processes and discrete automation projects while managing scope, schedule and budget effectively. The Engineering Manager will carry a workload that may include high profile matters such as Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) or Front-End Loading (FEL) studies, and project kickoff activities. Ideal candidate will be comfortable working in the field as necessary to review and verify instrumentation, control hardware, networks, and electrical work to ensure quality deliverables are provided to the customer.
This position is required to assist or develop project proposals or technical scope, develop project execution plans, work breakdown structures and associated budgets, task prioritization and scheduling, task ordering, time tracking and reporting, financial tracking and reporting, early problem identification, conflict management/resolution, leading and supporting a team, and attending project status meetings. In addition, the Engineering Manager may be called upon to present or answer questions regarding the proposal or project execution to clients. Oversight of daily operations and activities of a project(s) while ensuring overall profitability of the project is also expected.
The Engineering Manager should primarily be a billable position, as the Engineering Manager is to carry a project workload. In addition, much of the work is direct support of project execution or quality assurance and can be billed against the project. Remaining tasks such as business development, development of procedures or guidelines, and resource development should be prioritized not to affect availability to complete billable or project related work.
The ideal candidate must have a diverse engineering and technical skill set with the ability to work independently. Excellent client relations skills, and the ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills are critical.
