Applications Engineering Manager manages all solutions support activities, including the pre-sales scoping process and the post-sales design and implementation activities for complex technical products. Oversees sales demo preparation and delivery and facilitates technical requirements gathering sessions. Being a Applications Engineering Manager ensures the review of customer technical specifications is accurate and provides solid recommendations of specific products or services. Leads the planning and design of product configuration, custom solutions, enhancements, or upgrades and directs the delivery of problem resolution, repairs, or workarounds.     The Application Engineering Manager plays a pivotal role in interpreting and translating customers’ requirements into product concepts. They are responsible for managing the execution of designs in accordance with ATS Project Management Model.

    Essential Functions:

    • Lead application projects using ATS methodology for timely, high-quality deliverables.
    • Mentor applications engineers in project management, heat transfer, vehicle integration, and cost management.
    • Stay updated on market knowledge, including vehicle specifications and customer trends.
    • Ensure smooth transition of projects into production.
    • Lead training in advanced quality planning tools and problem-solving techniques.
    • Create and implement customer-driven designs with minimal supervision.
    • Review team ECN/ECR submissions for accuracy and completeness.
    • Specify materials and analyze structures for robustness, cost, and risk.
    • Act as primary contact for internal customer product knowledge.
    • Lead Design FMEA’s with cross-functional groups.
    • Utilize QPC process as outlined in IATF-16949 standard.
    • Serve as primary technical contact in support of sales and maintain customer relationships.
    • Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
    • Support manufacturing for prototyping or production launches.
    • Drive operational improvement and warranty reduction from a customer program perspective.
    • Lead engineering program cost reduction to deliver annual savings.

    Technical Skills:

    • Ability to lead the design & launch process of OEM systems and sub-systems.
    • In-depth knowledge of materials, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
    • Working knowledge of Quality Functional Deployment.
    • Thorough understanding of quantitative methods for compact heat exchanger design.
    • Solid understanding of heat exchanger manufacturing processes.
    • Ability to apply cost to manufacture and product costing methods.
    • Commitment to staying up-to-date with heat transfer advancements in the vehicle industry.
    • Proficiency in Creo for design, analysis, and drafting.
    • Strong understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
    • Experience with Windchill/PDM Link for CAD file management and change management.
    • Use of DFM/DFA skills related to manufacturing capability.
    • Effective communication with customers and suppliers.
    • Sound analysis methods in heat transfer and structural phenomenon evaluation.
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
    • Administration of Creo and Windchill PDM link systems.

    Education and Experience:

    • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
    • Ability to motivate staff for excellence.
    • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
    • Seven to ten years of design experience in an OEM manufacturing environment.
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience with parametric-based CAD software, preferably Creo.
    • Minimum of 3 years in an engineering management function.
    • Experience in sheet metal design and weldments.
    • Experience in heat exchanger products and processes (brazing) is a plus.
    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required.
    • Masters of Engineering Management or an MBA required.
