    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    Provide technical services for development of intranet user interface for modifying/editing data in the database and web user interface for external users to access databases for Injury Biomechanics RDT&E, analysis, and investigation projects. The Computer Specialist II relies on written documentation of project requirements to perform job functions.  Develop and integrate data-driven software application, web-based applications, and user interfaces for a relational database to include design, coding, and testing.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage the gathering, cleaning, extraction, transfer, and reporting of data, interfacing with appropriate personnel and providing support throughout the data management process.
    • Develop and update appropriate data management documentation and store documents and data in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
    • Implement industry and military best practices in website and online interfaces and applications, including security and other protocols
    • Inform the Principal Investigator and research staff of improvements and system capabilities to optimize effective use of systems based on project requirements and goals provided by the Principal Investigator. 
    • Analyze operations, applications, and programming; evaluate software and hardware systems against requirements; identify, determine, and implement changes to the database using project requirements provided by Group Leadership, Principal Investigator or research team. 
    • Support the development and integration of data-driven software application, web-based applications, and user interfaces for a relational database to include design, coding, and testing. 
    • Develop and update documentation required, such as standard operating procedures, data dictionaries, etc., to operate and maintain each interface. 
    • Evaluate and recommend software and equipment to optimize efficiency of applications developed, including batch processing, system architecture, system maintenance, system administration, .NET, Visual Basic (and its variations), Visual Studio, Microsoft products for application/interface/database, HTML, and/or XML
    • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES

    None.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering related field such as electrical, biomedical, mechanical, biomechanics, physics, etc.
    • Must have a minimum 4 years of experience in biomedical engineering or clinical.
    • Experience in laboratory procedures, testing and research activities.
    • Experience of system architecture, system maintenance, system administration, .NET, Web Services, JavaScript, HTML, Visual Basic (and its variations), Visual Studio, Web User Interface Design, Security Principals, Object-Oriented Design, and/or Microsoft products for application/interface/database
    • Experience in handling large data sets, relational databases, and metadata standards. 
    • Experience in database development, data-driven solutions, database maintenance, research data, unique data (PHI, PII, and/or FOUO data), and research or start-up environments.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and research. 
    • Must have and be able to maintain a SECRET security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
    • Must obtain and maintain all necessary security access and/or background checks.

     

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

    • Must be able to read, understand and execute techniques and procedures within the quality standards and timelines prescribed by the research plan.
    • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and initiatives at one time.
    • Good written communication skills and a solid understanding of Government contracting and the professional services industry.
    • Good computer skills with advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite software.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
    • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.
    • Proven ability to exercise mature judgment – specifically in recognizing and respecting the confidential nature of corporate and personnel matters.
    Job Requirements

    WORK SCHEDULE 

    Full-time, 40 hours per week. May work variable work hours to meet performance requirements (e.g., proposal and reporting deadlines, collaborations, and lab and field data collections), including occasional night and weekend hours.

     

    TRAVEL

    May travel CONUS or OCONUS to conduct RDT&E, attend working groups meetings, training, workshops, conferences or other relevant meetings, but not anticipated.

     

    DRIVING REQUIRMENT

    None.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed primarily in an office and /or laboratory setting. Laboratory environment includes human testing, so exposure may include but are not limited to:  Blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, fumes, vapors, communicable diseases, etc. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lying down or to be or remain in a position or state of inactivity. Lift and carry 50 lbs. individually and as a part of a team lift and carry operation; use hand tools to assemble and disassemble equipment, instrumentation, and test devices; climb and descend equipment, test devices, military vehicles, steps, or ladders.
