    The Office of Student Advocacy within the Division of Student Life invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Student Advocacy. This position oversees the Office of Student Advocacy’s signature programs, outreach events, and other program coordination that impacts student and family experiences, retention, and success. This position will also serve as a part of the advising team of the Student Government Association (SGA) and directly advise assigned branches of SGA.


    The Office of Student Advocacy is dedicated to providing holistic student support that empowers all students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Through dedicated guidance and advocacy, we aim to cultivate a welcoming and thriving campus community where every student feels seen and heard. By empowering Student Government leaders to be strong peer advocates, equipping families to be strong supporters of students, and offering unwavering institutional support, we believe that students will find success and fulfillment in their overall college experience.


    The Position: As a member of the Office of Student Advocacy, the Coordinator of Student Advocacy will lead programming centered on building student and family connections, support, and advocacy. The Coordinator of Student Advocacy will execute social media strategy and be responsible for the external communications of the Office of Student Advocacy in collaboration with Student Life Communications. The Coordinator of Student Advocacy will also serve as a member of the SGA advising team, as the content expert of their assigned branches, and as the comprehensive advisor to student leaders.


    Responsibilities:

    • Serve as the primary campus contact and lead for departmental signature events.
    • Coordinate with various departments and divisions to ensure that signature programs are inclusive of existing and newly created family-focused campus events.
    • Ensure that assigned events are within budget and adhere to university fiscal and operational policies.
    • Regularly participate in and lead assigned outreach and communication efforts for the Office of Student Advocacy, including managing social media
    • Serve as an advisor of the Student Government Association
    • Advise and organize the senate and first-year leadership council administration of the organization.
    • Empower student leaders and advocate for students.
    • Advise student leaders in university policies and procedures.
    • Attend organization meetings and programs on campus to strengthen connection with students; Meet individually and in groups with executive leadership; Maintain strong working/collaborative relationships with members of SGA, university leadership, and supporters.
    • Assist departmental leadership with student and family concerns, including communication with students, faculty, staff, and policy review and recommendations.

    What We Require

    Education: Bachelor’s degree.


    Experience: 1 year of experience in event planning, student advising, or project management.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of best practices for event planning, execution, and assessment.
    • Demonstrated ability to build relationships across a complex organization
    • Knowledge of theory and best practices in student advisement.
    • Ability to develop and lead an effective communication strategy.

    What We Prefer:

    Education: Master’s Degree


    Experience:

    • 2 years in a higher education setting advising student organization(s).
    • Demonstrated experience in executing large-scale programming.

    Salary: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and other qualifications and is accompanied by a standard university benefits package. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.
