Applications Programming Supervisor supervises the teams and daily activities needed for the analysis, testing, coding, and implementation of applications. Monitors operational metrics and processes and implements standard methodologies, tools, and best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables. Being an Applications Programming Supervisor supports multiple development projects with scheduling, planning, and resource allocation. Conducts feedback processes, including peer reviews, code reviews, and design reviews. Additionally, Applications Programming Supervisor fosters a performance culture using individual and team coaching and mentoring to achieve excellence. May supervise vendors or off-shore resources. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Applications Programming Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be an Applications Programming Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Instructor Responsibilities:
    • Teach introductory and 2nd-year modern software development courses covering programming logic, program design, problem solving, troubleshooting, software development tools, and testing.
    • Instruct students on database topics e.g. MySQL, SQLServer, or Access.
    • Teach languages such as Microsoft C#, Java, Python, JavaScript.
    • Teach web client and server technologies.
    • Develop & teach face-to-face, online & blended courses
    • Teach daytime, evening, & at alternative sites to meet the needs of a diverse population
    • Participate in departmental meetings, Advisory Committee, & extracurricular opportunities as part of larger college community
    • Interact with students using a variety of teaching methods, advising, holding office hours, & involvement in student organizations such as Computer Club and computer security competition
    • Participate in departmental assessment, outreach programs, student recruiting, & student open houses

    Educational Requirement:
    • Associate degree in a computer or information technology field.


    Occupational Experience Requirement:
    • Four full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in computer programming.

    Recency Requirement:
    • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

    Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement:
    Minnesota State – Computer Programming (minnstate.edu) (to be completed within first three years of employment)
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS or comparable computer-related field
    • Teaching knowledge of computer programming
    • Teaching knowledge of cloud services, virtualization technologies, project management tools, and other professional software development tools
    • Experience teaching, especially with multicultural and nontraditional students
    • Experience teaching or training in a two-year college or technical college setting
    • Excellent organizational & human relations skills
    • Willingness to participate in activities supporting a culture of continuous improvement in all collegiate areas
    • Experience teaching or reinforcing teamwork & career preparation skills within technology-focused environments
