Job Description
The Women's Center is in a transformational period in our 30-year history at Virginia Tech and seeks a leader to serve as the Center's inaugural Assistant Director for Programming and Engagement (ADPE). As a member of the Center's leadership team the assistant director must be creative, forward-thinking, energetic, collaborative, and team oriented. The Center values commitments to diversity, justice-seeking, and compassion, especially in women's and gender-equity to advance the university's teaching and learning objectives.
Virginia Tech's commitment to engaged and experiential learning for students and faculty will shape the priorities of the assistant director. The Women's Center reports to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, and the ADPE is an integral member of a university-level team dedicated to advancing the center's mission and re-imagining the work we do to support all faculty, staff, and students. The assistant director will bring their unique experience, skills, and knowledge to leading the center's educational programming and outreach efforts in new directions.
The ADPE works alongside the Center's programming team comprised of the director for programming, outreach and engagement, the assistant director for gender-based violence prevention, and the special projects coordinator. The ADPE leads the implementation of the Center's signature programs/initiatives and identifies, coordinates, and supervises student-led experiential learning projects.
Required Qualifications
* Master's degree in student affairs, health education, women's and gender studies, sociology or related field (must be completed by summer 2025).
* Experience presenting, teaching and/or delivering educational programs for diverse audiences.
* Knowledge of and commitment to intersectional women's and gender-equity issues.
* Experience with supervision, advising, or counseling college-age individuals.
* Excellent communication skills, including written and public speaking.
* Strong administrative skills including ability to work collaboratively with a team and lead individuals and work groups to successful completion of projects and tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in a higher education setting.
* Experience working with diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts.
* Experience working with college students.
* Crisis intervention certification or training.
