    Colgate Information Technology Services (ITS) is a dynamic organization that serves the diverse technology needs of the university community. The Director of Enterprise Applications and Data systems will have the opportunity to partner with stakeholders across campus and influence the direction of several of
    these initiatives.

    Accountabilities:
    As a member of the ITS Strategic Leadership Team, the Director for Enterprise Applications and Data Systems provides leadership, vision, project management, and technical and operational planning for the Shared Services and Infrastructure (SSI) functions and team. This position also leads projects and handles technical duties as necessary. As a member of the ITS Strategic Leadership Team, the Director also fosters cross-team collaborations that support a healthy organizational culture and provide quality services to the Colgate community.
    Accountabilities Provide strategic and long-range planning for Colgate's enterprise systems, data infrastructure, applications and databases. Establish goals for the department that are clearly stated and communicated, aligned with ITS and institutional priorities, responsive to opportunities, challenges and current best practices, and reflective of conclusions drawn from assessment results. Stay current on trends, vendor products, and services.
    Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of Colgate's centrally-managed enterprise systems, data infrastructure, applications, and databases. Coordinate dialogue and decision-making about product selection, project timeline, and implementation that ensures innovative, customer-focused and user-friendly solutions. Effectively communicate with stakeholders.
    Collaboratively choose and implement formal processes and best practices necessary to ensure the reliability, security, and sustainability of the software, systems, and applications. Ensure systems, application and database backup/recovery procedures, security and business continuity are in place and fully tested. Work with ITS colleagues to ensure a disaster recovery plan is in place for areas of responsibility.
    Provide tactical planning and oversight, as well as guidance on day-to-day operations. Manage the allocation of resources to effectively support the current initiatives, services, and offerings. Manage work plans; set timelines and milestones; and involve others to deliver on time. Ensure appropriate distribution of work assignments and high quality of employee work product.
    Envision, manage, and operationalize innovative, future-directed initiatives, such as support for new solutions, cloud/on-premise system integration, web architecture, and high performance computing. Research and recommend solutions, considering cloud hosted and SaaS solutions where appropriate.
    Responsible for the job evaluation, development and continued professional growth of all direct reports.
    Responsible for the effective supervision of staff as assigned. Ensures selection and hiring of high quality employees; ensures appropriate distribution of work assignments and high quality of employee work product; ensures fair, accurate and timely performance assessments and feedback to include identifying areas for professional development and documenting and conducting disciplinary measures, as needed. Responsible for ensuring fair and accurate decisions regarding employment status (hire, promotion, salary increases, termination); ensures the creation of effective opportunities and programs for employee mentoring, development and sustained performance.
    Provide resource allocation and oversight consistent with goals, priorities, and budget; manage vendor relationships and negotiate favorable contract terms; evaluate the financial impact of decisions; and develop strategies to maximize resource allocation.
    Develop productive working relationships characterized by a high level of cooperation and mutual respect with faculty, students, staff, other work units, vendors, etc. to meet mutual goals and objectives.
    Participate in professional development activities.

    Professional Experience/Qualifications
    • Progressive professional and management experience.
    • Broad background in technology and firm understanding of system management, system integration, ERP systems, custom application development, and research and high performance computing. Ability to collaboratively create long-term plans in all these areas.
    • Experience with software life cycles, software development methodologies (including agile), project management and system and database administration.
    • Some familiarity with programming and scripting, cybersecurity, security, unified communications, storage solutions, web development, operating systems.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in Budget management.
    • Five or more years in a project leadership, supervisory, or management role.
    • Proven ability to effectively lead a group and mentor others.
    • Ability to effectively lead large projects and run large meetings.
    • Proven excellence in client contact and strong communication skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team. Willing to collaborate, share ideas openly and learn.
    • Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the academic, cultural and social diversity in the Colgate University community.



    Education
    Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or a related degree preferred, or equivalent additional professional experience in essential duties and responsibilities.
