Our People & Places Solutions business – reinforces our drive to improve the lives of people everywhere and epitomizes the “why” of what we do – the tremendous positive impact and value our solutions bring to our communities and society as a whole. From facilities delivering life-saving therapies and ensuring clean water to enabling the connection of people through all modes of transportation and providing access to technology – we’re integrating a multitude of these solution elements to build the smart environments of tomorrow.

Start your Jacobs career with a company that inspires and empowers you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed – today and into tomorrow.

    Your Impact:

At Jacobs, you’ll work for a company that strives to provide opportunities for employees to learn, grow and thrive. As Senior Architectural Historian, you’ll work on a variety of projects throughout the United States. This position involves providing cultural resources support for planning, engineering, and construction services to government, military, and commercial clients. The architectural historian career path provides the opportunity to work on projects that require compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and other federal, state, and local cultural resource regulations.

The Senior Architectural Historian confidently develops strategies for compliance with federal, state, and local cultural resources regulations and solutions for complex projects. You will serve as a key team member working with scientists, engineers, project managers, and other project staff across business sectors and practices in the company, interface with clients, and coordinate consultation with State Historic Preservation Officers, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, Native American tribes, and multiple state and federal agencies. You will also prepare proposals and cost estimates, provide technical reviews of deliverables, provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level employees, and serve as a mentor within the cultural resources group.

    Here’s what you’ll need:

    ·       Master’s Degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Public History, Architecture, or a related field.

    ·       Minimum 10 years of professional experience in historic preservation or a related field.

    ·       Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    ·       Proficient reading architecture and engineering plans.

    ·       Oral and written English communication skills.

    ·       Must be willing and able to travel nationwide, as needed, approximately 15 percent of time.

    ·       Documentation and research experience, including Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record documentation, historical contexts, and NRHP eligibility determinations and effects assessments.

    ·       Expertise with the NHPA Section 106 consultation process.

    ·       Experience writing and implementing agreement documents.

    ·       Familiarity with the California Environmental Quality Act.

    ·       Experience working in the consulting environment, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and be responsive to both internal and external clients.

    ·       Knowledge of and experience with ‘recent past’ resources.

    ·       Working knowledge of GIS and mobile data collection applications, such as ArcGIS Field Maps.

    ·       Experience conducting field surveys and in-person research.

    ·       Experience preparing proposals and cost estimates.

    ·       Experience providing technical reviews of deliverables.

    Other Preferred Qualifications:

    ·       Familiarity with NEPA and Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act

    ·       Experience with transportation and infrastructure projects, including FHWA and FRA

At Jacobs, we’re challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world’s most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good. With $15 billion in revenue and a talent force of more than 60,000, Jacobs provides a full spectrum of professional services including consulting, technical, scientific and project delivery for the government and private sector.
