Art Manager manages the creative design and execution of visual communications to meet an organization's marketing or advertising objectives. Provides internal clients with design standards, tools, and guidance on communicating corporate image, branding, and identity. Being an Art Manager oversees the design and production operations of all visual elements including publications, infographics, and social content, that are deployed across digital, interactive and print. Monitors projects and timelines. Additionally, Art Manager stays current on latest trends. Develops and manages a network of vendors, freelance artists, and designers to utilize for project support.     Burlington High School is seeking a passionate and energetic Art Teacher to join a school committed to high levels of achievement for all students for SY24/25. This position requires teaming with other high school level art teachers to plan a continuum of art offerings and to support students from diverse backgrounds in finding success in high school. The position will likely include the teaching of Art 1 and Lanscape, Collage and Paper Mache.

    The Art Instructor is an aligned, exempt position that will report to the Principal. The ideal candidate will create, organize, and implement meaningful and engaging lessons/instructional programs for diverse groups of students in a high school level learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential, as well as help them develop their character, personality, and social and emotional skills. They will adhere to state curriculum standards, and collect and report on correct and detailed records of student performance. Key components of this job include creating and maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment where mutual trust and respect can foster with students from all backgrounds and abilities.

    The Essential Functions of this position include:

    • Instructional Strategies


    1. Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans, class activities, and a variety of instructional materials that facilitate active and meaningful learning. Develop lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established expectations.
    2. In harmony with the parameters of the District-adopted curriculum, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc, and communicate these objectives and their purpose to students.
    3. Adapt and reassess lesson plans to meet specific student needs; comply with newly implemented guidelines or rules, and update lesson plans and activities to incorporate best practices and new developments in education.
    4. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
    5. Assess and record learning on an ongoing basis and adjust instruction based on the assessments.
    6. Refer students with special learning needs to appropriate staff according to district/building/department procedures.
    7. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
    8. Assist students in attaining an acceptable level of proficiency in related computer work.
    9. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in EST (education study team) and Special Educators to meet the needs of all students, including students with disabilities.
    10. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the student population being served and how demographic variables impact student achievement, and effectively use this knowledge to effectively design and deliver instruction.
    11. Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
    12. Provide a safe, positive learning environment for students by effectively managing student behavior, and monitoring students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, cafeteria, school grounds, hallways, field trips, etc.). Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and consistently enforcing rules and procedures. Maintain classroom discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
    13. Possess and continually develop a working knowledge of state and District curriculum standards and frameworks.
    14. Participate in scheduled in-service days and staff meetings.
    15. Cooperate with and support other faculty and staff in planning instruction and coordinating services for students.
    16. Use discretion in discussing school affairs, recognizing the value of positive school-community relations.
    17. Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education, goals, and instructional objectives.
    18. Comply with Board and administrative policies, regulations, and procedures and reinforce students' doing the same.
    19. Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
    20. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations.
    21. Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, lesson plans following scope and sequence, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
    22. Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, bullying, hazing, zero-tolerance offenses, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to state law and board policies.
    23. Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
    24. Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.
    25. Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and/or assigned.


    The required education and experience for this position include:

    • Education:


    1. Minimum Required: Bachelor's degree.
    2. Certification: Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
    3. The endorsement in secondary art or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
    4. Documented or eligible for NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status as applicable.
    5. Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.


    • Experience:


    1. Minimum Required: Demonstrated experience in teaching at the high school level.
    2. Demonstrated excellence in a variety of art techniques.
    3. Proficiency in visual literacy including art elements and principles, art history, aesthetics, and organizing an art classroom environment.
    4. Experience in differentiating instruction through the creative process and planning curriculum using "backward design" and formative assessments.
    5. Experience in integrating technology into classroom instruction.
    6. Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring).
    7. Knowledge of best practices in engaging and motivating students and managing student behaviors.


    • Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:


    • Working knowledge: Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
    • General knowledge: Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.
    • Thorough knowledge: Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.
    • Comprehensive knowledge: Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.


    • Preferred Attributes:


    1. Experience in professional/teaching-learning community groups including working collaboratively with colleagues to plan units of study, review student data and progress, and adjust instruction.
    2. A commitment to student-centered learning approaches including personalizing instruction and supporting students in meeting core proficiencies
    3. Training and/or experience with English Language Learners
    4. Experience in implementing inclusive practices for students with disabilities
    5. Ongoing postgraduate coursework in education or art
    6. Experience planning, coordinating, and preparing art displays and exhibitions for the school and community
    7. Experience selecting and maintaining required inventory of materials, tools, instructional aids, and equipment
