Art Manager manages the creative design and execution of visual communications to meet an organization's marketing or advertising objectives. Provides internal clients with design standards, tools, and guidance on communicating corporate image, branding, and identity. Being an Art Manager oversees the design and production operations of all visual elements including publications, infographics, and social content, that are deployed across digital, interactive and print. Monitors projects and timelines. Additionally, Art Manager stays current on latest trends. Develops and manages a network of vendors, freelance artists, and designers to utilize for project support. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in art, graphic design or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Art Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.     About This Position: We’re looking for an Art Director, Direct Mail, to provide design direction and oversight for several direct mail accounts under the guidance of the Creative Director. The Art Director will make directional decisions for design and layout on a daily basis, but will seek guidance, input, and/or support from the Creative Director as needed. The duties of the Art Director will range from playing a role in collaborative brainstorming and guiding design, layout, and format decisions to completing documentation of direction related to direct mail specifications and seeing it through from first draft to final client approval. This role will contribute to our clients’ success (and, in turn, the agency’s) through the development of powerful direct mail creative that exemplifies our clients’ brands and missions, to ultimately generate desired campaign program results.

    Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Leading the vision for direct mail format, layout, and design of direct mail on assigned accounts, including providing expertise on package specifications as related to the overall creative concept and approach.
    • Ensuring high-quality design output at every stage of development from first draft and internal and client revision cycles to finalization of art files for production.
    • Providing clear direction and feedback for designers to hone in on art/photo selections and licensing that meet established objectives and criteria.
    • Active participation in regular creative concepting and brainstorming for nonprofit direct mail programs, with consideration for budget, timing, and resources.
    • Directing the design development process for direct mail to ensure layouts are on-brief, consistent with specs, and accomplish client goals.
    • Leading direct mail concept/comp presentations at in-person and remote client meetings.
    • Overseeing the development of multiple jobs simultaneously.
    • Partnering with internal teams to improve processes and deliver the best possible outcomes for clients.
    • Organizing and resourcing project teams based on client need, available resources and budget parameters, ensuring appropriate allocation of talent for projects.


    Qualifications:

    You will be a great fit for us if you have five (5) or more years directing and/or creating direct mail designs and layouts for nonprofits. Bachelor’s degree in art, graphic design, marketing, communications, or other relevant fields is strongly preferred but not required if the candidate has comparable experience. Non-profit or agency experience is required for this position. You must also have:

    • Deep knowledge of design principles specifically for direct mail marketing.
    • A strong ability to collaborate on projects, with a high level of skill in providing thoughtful, considerate responses and constructive, actionable feedback.
    • Experience branding requirements and production specifications with the specific objectives and content of a project.
    • Strong ideation, creative visioning, art direction, and project management skills.
    • Comfort juggling multiple projects with competing deadlines.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
    • A firm grasp on print/direct mail production specifications and their impact on cost.
    • A strong creative mind, drive, initiative, curiosity and sense of humor.


    Tech Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in working with PC or Mac computers and accompanying software for this role, particularly Adobe Acrobat and Adobe InDesign. This employee should display confidence and proficiency navigating Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Asana, and a high level of comfort utilizing video meetings and Slack for daily communication needs. Knowledge of additional programs in the Adobe Creative Suite a plus.

Though we support flexible schedules, it’s important to note that our clients are largely based in Eastern Time.
