Description
The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.
Position Summary: Under the direction of the Center/Program Director, plan, coordinate and oversee daily after School, evening and summer camp program activities with supervisory responsibility over all assigned staff, volunteers and interns. Work closely with the Administrative Assistant, Senior Recreation Leader, and maintenance staff, and program specialists to provide a safe and structured learning environment.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Model and uphold all Agency and PAL (the Agency) site rules.
- Provide direction to and supervise assigned program staff, and evaluate same as scheduled.
- In conjunction with the Center/Program Director, plan, organize and manage special events as assigned by the Center/Program Director, or as planned by on-site staff.
- Oversee maintenance of building while on site, usually between the hours of 2pm to 1Opm.
- Establish daily communication with maintenance and program staff to ensure that facility is safe, clean and fully functional.
- Oversee the Youth Employment Program in a manner that supports the supervisor of the program and ensures that on-site programmatic and operational needs are met.
- In consultation with the Center/Program Director, serve as liaison, interact and negotiate with school and service agency representatives that seek to enter into "partnerships" or provide programs or volunteer personnel.
- Identify and develop relationships with educational, cultural, recreational, and environmental institutions that can serve as program resources for the center and Agency.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Order, secure and manage program supplies and equipment;
- During summer months, serve as Summer Camp Director with similar programmatic, supervisory and managerial responsibilities.
- Ensure that incident reports (accidents, injuries, altercations, etc.) are submitted no later than the date of occurrence.
- Review reports and provide copies to the center director and office manager for record keeping purposes. Collect and review weekly, monthly, written and verbal reports as requested from program staff.
- Also, submit same as requested by the Center/Program Director. Ensure that program bulletin boards are well maintained with current and upcoming program information and display photographs/products of program participants.
- In coordination with the administrative assistant, review daily attendance sheets and submit weekly to the Center/Program Director for signature. AS assigned by the Center/Program Director, or when deemed necessary, call/attend meetings with staff, parents, volunteers and community residents to assist in program delivery and promotion of programs. Interact with and maintain a formal relationship with parents/guardians and keep open lines of communication to better understand and manage the children.
Education & Experience:
A Bachelor's degree preferred (minimum of an associate's degree) from an accredited college or university in Administration, Recreation, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Counseling or a related field.
- A minimum of three years’ professional paid work experience in a non-profit youth or social service agency in an administrative or managerial capacity.
Skills& Knowledge:
- Demonstrated skills and competency in program development, staff supervision, and delivery of youth services.
- Understanding of conflict resolution, mediation and mentoring concepts.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to speak professionally to staff, members, parents, groups and community residents.
- Familiarity with office protocols involving dress, demeanor, record keeping, confidentiality, staff meetings, visitors, and employee use of supplies and equipment.
Salary: $20.00 Per Hour
