    Job Description

    The Athletic Director provides administrative direction and oversight for all intercollegiate athletic programs at Centralia College. Major responsibilities include supervision of coaches/staff, compliance with federal, college and Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) rules and regulations, administering departmental budgets in a fiscally responsible manner, and developing a culture of academic success, sportsmanship, leadership, professionalism and respect. The director will develop and implement fundraising efforts in support of athletic programs and scholarships. The director must work with campus and community constituents to develop innovative and forward-thinking offerings to students of Centralia College.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Responsible for interpreting all rules and regulations of the NWAC; policies and procedures of Centralia College, the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges, the US Department of Education – Title IX; and the recruiting and transfer regulations of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) division I, II, and III, and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) ensuring that all program activities remain in complete compliance and are conducted with the highest standards of integrity and sportsmanship.

    • Develop and maintain close liaison with the sports community within the service district and college staff members including but not limited to the Director of Financial Aid and the Director of Student Life & Involvement.
    • Monitor the preparation of the Athletic Program budgets and present the budget requests to the Associated Students of Centralia College (ASCC) Student Budget Committee. Responsible for the fiscal control and accurate accountability of all funds. Present the budget to the Board of Trustees on an annual basis.
    • Coordinate with the Director of Financial Aid and recommend athletes for financial aid programs and scholarships.
    • Provide leadership and planning to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local laws and college policies.
    • Ensure that all athletes who sign letters of intent are awarded jobs and/or financial aid that is promised by the letters of intent.
    • Supervise field/gymnasium operations, security and student employees.
    • Screen and interview all coaches and assistant coaches and recommend contracts to the Vice President of Student Services.
    • In collaboration with the Centralia College Foundation, lead efforts to develop and implement an active alumni and booster organization that supports the goals of improving community outreach and engagement.
    • Administer policies regarding athletes and maintain an effective recruiting system for all sports.
    • Monitor fund raising projects for each sport, including, but not limited to, acting as chairman on fund raising projects which all sports participated in.
    • Coordinate usage of athletic facilities by campus and outside organizations or interested parties.
    • Ensure proper athletic insurance for each sport.
    • Update, revise and implement all the necessary forms needed for eligibility to participate in the NWAC or other program offerings.
    • Be responsible for the Athletic Hall of Fame process. This includes updating the constitution, maintaining the physical site, inducting new members and acquiring the funding needed to continue the process.
    • Supervise and evaluate all full-time and part-time department staff including but not limited to: program coordinator, assistant director, coaches and student workers.
    • Develop and implement an athletic strategic plan that includes a Title IX compliance plan, athletic facilities use plan, and a sports operation plan.
    • Work closely with the academic support staff to monitor academic success and progress of student athletes.
    • Develop and implement a student athletic leadership council.
    • Serve on various college committees and as a member of the Student Services Cabinet.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive athletic event marketing plan to increase fan participation.
    • Any additional duties as assigned by the Vice president of Student Services.

    Responsibilities as related to NWAC

    At the Conference Level:

    • Ensure compliance with the Code Book by all athletic programs.
    • Prepare eligibility at appropriate times.
    • Ensure compliance with NWAC due dates for rosters, schedules, photos, statistics, etc.
    • Host All-Star contests ensure remuneration to the NWAC, or other agencies, as appropriate.
    • Prepare accurate grant-in-aid audit for NWAC office at the end of each school year.
    • Ensure proper coaching certification by all coaches and track/update appropriate clinics, conferences, seminars and etc.
    • Management of the letter-of-intent process.
    • Serve on sports committees and executive board when appointed.

    At the Regional Level:

    • Keep the Executive Director of the NWAC apprised of situations specifically affecting your institution regarding the possible addition or deletion of any athletic programs.
    • Serve as one of two commissioners and attend regional commissioners’ meetings, as appropriate.

    At the Local Level:

    • Ensure the college maintains Title IX and Consumer Information Disclosure compliance.
    • Develop athletic offerings that meet emerging student interests to broaden the array of opportunities for students.
    • In collaboration with the coaches, develop and implement a summer camp schedule for appropriate sports as a way to engage local youth.
    • Ensure Collegiate Housing International (CHI) is promoted as the student housing option for athletes. Develop policies and procedures to ensure housing is filled annually.
    • Assist the Vice President with student conduct/behavioral matters involving student athletes.
    • Ensure athletes participate in anti-hazing, Title IX and other required trainings.
    • In collaboration with Facilities, develop and implement a field maintenance schedule.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
    • Full time experience working in athletic administration.
    • Demonstrated experience in budget management, employee supervision, and fundraising.
    • Knowledge of and experience managing Title IX compliance
    • A demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
    • Communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
    • Demonstrated experience with budget management.
    • Able to work extended hours and be on call nights and weekends.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree
    • Familiarity with NWAC rules, regulations, and codes.
    • Familiarity with intercollegiate admissions, recruitment, coaching, financial aid processes, and student retention.
    • Knowledge and experience with athletic facilities management, supervision, and maintenance.
    • Understanding of best practices for attracting and retaining students to rural colleges.
    • Bilingual skills.
    • Experience with community college populations.
    • Knowledge of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC).
    • Knowledge and experience in athletic fundraising.

    Conditions of Employment

    This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time administrative exempt position. The salary is $86,145 - $86,145 (DOQ/DOE) annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.
