Assistant Campus Recreation Director administers and promotes all non-varsity, club (intramural) sports and wellness program. Plans and organizes campus-wide recreational programs for all students, faculty, and staff. Being an Assistant Campus Recreation Director may supervise student staff. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Assistant Campus Recreation Director typically reports to Campus Recreation Director. The Assistant Campus Recreation Director supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. Thorough knowledge of department processes. Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the Parks and Recreation Director.
Working Conditions:
Employee exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, both hot and cold weather.
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds constantly.
Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in recreation administration or related degree.
Experience: Experience of an increasingly responsible nature in Municipal Recreation; Supervisory experience required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of local government recreation and administration.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of park, greenway, and playground planning, development, and maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of cultural resources programming.
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of public administration regarding departmental personnel and budget administration.
Ability to develop and execute a well-rounded program of recreational, athletic, and cultural activities.
Ability to interpret and cooperate with recreational philosophies.
Ability to communicate complex ideas orally and in writing.
Ability to prepare and present detailed reports.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, town officials, and members of the community.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid North Carolina driver license required; CPRP certification preferred.
