Assistant Campus Recreation Director administers and promotes all non-varsity, club (intramural) sports and wellness program. Plans and organizes campus-wide recreational programs for all students, faculty, and staff. Being an Assistant Campus Recreation Director may supervise student staff. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Assistant Campus Recreation Director typically reports to Campus Recreation Director. The Assistant Campus Recreation Director supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. Thorough knowledge of department processes.     Position Summary
    The Campus Recreation Assistant will work in support of facility operations and/or program and service delivery. This may include frontline customer service related to daily operations of the Bee McLeod Recreation Center, or support for Campus Recreation programs and services. Assignments will depend on departmental needs and applicant’s skills, experience and background.

    Required Qualifications
    • Experience in a customer service setting where excellent communication skills were required;
    • Proven flexibility and adaptability in work situations.

    Conditions of Employment
    • The position is designed to supplement the student workforce over holiday breaks, summer sessions and between semesters. Early mornings and late night shifts are possible.


    • All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, 1400 hours, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve (12) month period beginning May 1 each year. Pooled hourly position.

    • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
