    • Leadership and Development:
      Take charge of developing, maintaining, and implementing nursing service objectives and standards of nursing practice to ensure top-tier care.
    • Policy Formation: Craft and revise nursing service policies and procedures in alignment with state and federal regulations, setting a clear operational path for nursing staff.
    • Staff Management: Write job descriptions, oversee the recruitment process, and manage the professional development and retention of nursing service personnel.
    • Administrative Excellence: Organize and direct all aspects of nursing administration and resident care activities, ensuring seamless operations across the facility.
    • Training and Supervision: Orient, instruct, and supervise nursing staff to foster a collaborative and skilled workforce dedicated to compassionate patient care.

    The salary range for this role is $44.85 to $58.82 per hour, with anticipated starting pay between $44.85 and $47.35 per hour.

    Primary Responsibilities

    The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.


    • Plans, organizes, and directs effective administration of each nursing unit, based on nursing service objectives, standards, policies and procedures.
    • Assures patients of a comfortable, clean, orderly and safe environment.
    • Develops and maintains nursing objectives and standards for the institution.
    • Establishes policies and procedures and writes job descriptions for nursing service; interprets these to personnel and interested parties.
    • Evaluates nursing service needs and determines staffing requirements; and coordinates nursing department with other departments.
    • Interviews applicants; approves or rejects hiring. Oversees successful orientation of new personnel.
    • Conducts in-service education and training programs and interprets principles of good management to nursing supervisory personnel.
    • Schedules hours for 24-hour coverage to comply with state code and assigns duties, assisted by supervisory unit personnel.
    • Supervises and evaluates work performance of personnel in all units, assisted by supervisory unit personnel.
    • Coordinates all activities under direction of administration during state/federal survey process.
    • Designated acting administrator during the absence of Nursing Home Administrator.
    • Discharges personnel who are not qualified, or who violate policies, or when staffing requirements warrant it.
    • Assists charge nurses in developing nursing care plans for individual patients including rehabilitative and restorative activities, instruction in self-help, and cooperation with therapeutic services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, others.
    • Establishes administration, procedure, and control of medications under direction of Pharmacist and Pharmacy Committee.
    • Assists in providing for the spiritual, psychological, and social needs of patients.
    • Serves as consultant on admitting and discharge policies and procedures. Assigns patients to rooms (or delegates to other supervisory personnel).
    • Identifies and solves departmental and personnel problems.
    • Is responsible for execution of patient care policies in absence of physician.
    • Assesses supply and equipment needs for nursing department and sees that units are adequately stocked and maintained.
    • Performs duties of Staff Nurse whenever and wherever required; is on-call for emergencies that supervisory personnel cannot handle.
    • Establishes employee health program.
    • Assists in the establishment of a disaster, fire and safety program in cooperation with administration.
    • Assures proper handling and emergency care of patients, personnel and visitors involved in accidents while on the job or in the building.
    • Maintains required records.
    • Reviews, up-dates and revises policies, procedures, and job descriptions to meet current objectives and standards.
    • Maintains reference library of written nursing materials and laws governing nursing care.
    • Advises and consults with administration on nursing administration and patient care.
    • Prepares and submits required reports, and maintains statistics as directed.
    • Attends department head meetings and any other meetings designated by Administration.
    • Promotes public relations and maintains liaison with other nursing service directors.
    • Keeps current in the field of nursing through attendance at meetings, conferences, conventions and workshops; reading current literature pertaining to all aspects of patient care and restoration/rehabilitation; maintains membership in professional organization.
    • Maintains nursing personnel records of evaluation and incidents.
    • Assists in preparing and maintaining the department budget.
    • Regularly inspects facility and nursing practices for compliance with federal, state and local standards and regulations.
    • Assumes responsibility for the execution of patient care policies in the absence of a physician.
    • Reports to administration and attends all committee assignments as designated by the Administrator and/or Medical Director.
    • Attends workshops and institutes in the field of nursing.
    • Attends meetings at county level as required; serves on county-wide committees as assigned.
    • Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or other related field.
    • Requires a minimum of six (6) years previous supervisory experience within a nursing facility.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Wisconsin.
    • CPR Certification
    • Valid driver’s license or the ability to travel between work locations.
    • Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS

    • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of nursing with regard to total patient care plans.
    • Ability to organize, plan and supervise nursing service department(s).

    • Ability to grasp new theories and principles and implement them.
    • Ability to maintain membership in professional organization.
    • Skill in administering rehabilitative and restorative nursing care.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships.
    • Ability to follow Dunn County policies and procedures including those pertaining to confidentiality.
    • Ability to prioritize and organize job assignments.
    • Ability to manage time effectively, manage multiple projects, and complete work within established deadlines.
    • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.

    MINIMUM LANGUAGE SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS

    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and the general public in written and verbal form.
    • English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.

    MINIMUM REASONING ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS
