    Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $74,500 to $134,500/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

    Brief Summary of Job Duties:

    Under the general direction of the Recreation Executive Director and Senior Associate Director, the Assistant Director, Sport Programs is responsible for the design, implementation, coordination, and the general supervision of the Recreation Department's Intramural, Sport Club (~28 teams) and Youth programs, which serve students, staff, faculty, and community members. Set long range goals, create and implement policies for Intramural, Sport Club and Youth Programs operations. Manage and provide long term strategic planning of annual Intramural, Sport Club and Youth Programs. Provides oversight for a schedule of youth programs, with emphasis on summer camp programs (Summer Day Camp, Spring Day Camp, Beach 'n Surf Camp, Jr. Lifeguards). Supervises the full time staff of Intramural Coordinator, Sport Club Coordinator, Youth Programs Coordinator, Strength & Conditioning Coach, and Head Athletic Trainer. Provides leadership though indirect supervision to approximately 475 part time student employees. Ensures all sport club participants, coaches, and volunteers are properly trained regarding UC policies and procedures, Title IX, Hazing, Alcohol/Drug Education, diversity education, sportsmanship, and other relevant issues for student clubs and organizations. Ensures all youth program staff are properly trained regarding UC policies and procedures, CANRA, Alcohol/Drug Education, diversity education, and other relevant issues for working with youth.

    Required Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

    4-6 years related experience

    Knowledge of program activity and industry best practices.

    Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally.

    Strong service orientation; program management, sound judgment and decision-making, critical thinking skills; skill to develop original ideas, creative problem solving skills in a varied and challenging environment.

    Demonstrated fiscal management abilities.

    Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.

    Ability to successfully pass FBI and DOJ Criminal Check.

    Red Cross CPR and First Aid Training Certification required.

    Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

    30% Personnel Management & Supervision: Supervises, assigns duties, mentors, initiates disciplinary actions, resolves complaints/ grievances, and conducts performance evaluations for 4 full-time staff members. Hires, trains and evaluates hourly professional staff including Sport Club coaches and Youth Program seasonal staff. Creates, encourages and supports professional development opportunities for direct reports, including professional association involvement, training programs and individual mentoring. Oversees quality of programming of all intramural, sport club and youth program events by conducting regular evaluations of staff. Oversees the supervision of ~475 student employees working in Intramurals, Sport Clubs (including the Athletic Training Room and Athletic Performance Center), student administrative staff and Youth Programs staff. Develops and manages a comprehensive training program that openly cultivates the learning of management, organization, leadership, public relations, risk management and customer service skills for staff. Provides direct and indirect supervision/management of Sport Club teams. Sportsmanship will be a core value taught throughout the sport programs.

    15% Budget Control: Responsible for the preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets. Develops, implements, and maintains a life-cycle plan for the purchase and turnover of equipment and supplies used in the programs. Plans and prepares annual program budget. Responsible for long term budget forecasts and analysis of the Intramural, Sport Club and Youth Program budgets. Ensures that all program generated income is deposited and allocated to the appropriate accounts. Responsible for the quarterly billing of BARC accounts for student program participation registrations. Ensures that student fees and funds are properly assessed and allocated, within the restrictions set by the ballot language of the student initiative. Facilitates the biannual student passage of campus fee referenda that benefit the sport programs.

    40% Sport Programs and Youth Programs Administration: Oversees the operations of all intramural and sport club leagues, tournaments, practices, and special events. Administers and develops intramural, sport club and youth program policies and procedures. Coordinates with campus departments to ensure safety of all participants and property. Oversees the discipline systems for both Intramurals and Sport Clubs. Conducts confidential discipline meetings as needed and determines disciplinary measures for each individual participant/case. Coordinates scheduling for facilities used for sport club and intramural programming, leagues, practices, games, and special events. Oversees the rescheduling process for intramural leagues. Ensures that the facility & equipment are maintained properly for the safe use & appearance. Maintains and supervises the equipment check-out operation for sport clubs and intramurals. Responsible for all risk management related duties pertinent to program participants and staff to include appropriate trainings and establishment of policies and procedures to reduce general liability and enhance overall safety. Develop standard forms such as accident/injury reports, incident reports, notice to appears, and travel etc. to ensure a systematic approach to organization and management of programs. Develop training manuals to ensure continuity. Manage and supervise medical clearance for Sport Club participants. Facilitates the use of off campus facilities and equipment used in implementation of the Intramural and Sport Club programs. Provides oversight for department administered youth programs, specifically Spring Day Camp, Summer Day Camp and other youth centered programming. Youth Programs management duties: indirectly supervises the Youth Programs Coordinator and indirectly supervises the 75 summer camp staff/ counselors. Provides direction on all aspects of staff orientation and training to ensure all staff are aware of specific laws and policies regarding working with children (ie CANRA).

    5% Marketing and Development: Works with the Recreation Department marketing team to ensure programs are effectively marketed to the campus and Santa Barbara community as appropriate. Regularly evaluates the effectiveness/profitability of programs. Coordinates with the Senior Associate Director and with the Student Affairs Development Officer to generate funds through team donations, solicitations, and campaigns. Develops strategic fundraising efforts such as alumni data bases, special events, etc. Performs public relations activities on behalf of the Recreation Department.

    10% Miscellaneous: May be required to serve as departmental representative on various committees on campus. Serves as a member of the Campus Recreation administrative team by participating in staff meetings, activities and events. Maintains files and records and prepare reports. Represents Recreation Department on student governance boards (Rec Cen and ECEN). May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
