Assistant Pharmacy Director assists department head in daily duties and assumes responsibility in his/her absence. Oversees pharmacists and provides pharmacy services. Being an Assistant Pharmacy Director compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals. Typically requires a master's degree in pharmacy or doctor of pharmacy. Additionally, Assistant Pharmacy Director requires state Pharmacist License. Typically reports to top management. The Assistant Pharmacy Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be an Assistant Pharmacy Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.   • Overview

    As our Director of Pharmacy at St. Elizabeth Hospital, now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health,  you’ll oversee our Pharmacy twam who help our doctors and nurses safely prescribe and dispense medications to help our patients feel better and recover from their illness or injury.


    Responsibilities

    You’ll have responsibilty for meeting financial objectives in labor, revenue and gross margins by implementing performance improvement initiatives and evaluate the effectivness in meeting clinic/service expectations.  You will build trust in your interactions with your team and the departments and patients they serve and support by overseeing and assisting professional pharmacists and ancillary department staff in performing drug distrubution, preparation and associated pharmaceutical care activites.

     

    To excel in this role, you must enjoy learning new concepts and researching information in real-time to provide solutions for real people. You should also continually look for ways to go above and beyond for your patients, delivering an exceptional experience along with exceptional care.

     

    Your key responsilities will include:

    • Managing and evaluating the operations, programs and resources of the assigned facility to assure the safe and appropriate delivery of patient care
    • Plan, manage and evaluate the work of clinical and administrative staff in accordance with the content, spirit and intent of applicable internal/external regulations and standards for human resource management
    • Ensure that all aspects of clinical operations are conducted and documented in compliance with relevant internal policies, standards and procedures and applicable regulatory requirements
    • Work with management team to ensure the application of consistent practices relating to internal operations, patient care, quality of human resources activities and standards; assesses the strengths/weaknesses of the assigned clinical area/facility to identify opportunities and provide recommendations to Director for new quality/performance improvement initiative

     


    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience:

    • B.S. in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy required
    • Minimum of 4 years of recent pharmacy (or similar) work experience
    • Preferred: Minimum of 2 years in a leadership position or pharmacy residency completed or supplemental Masters Degree (MBA, MS, MHA, etc)
    • Demonstrated change management, standardization and leadership development skills required.
    • Demonstrated ability to create enthusiasm for new programs and different approaches to existing programs required.
    • Demonstrated quality improvement competencies required
    • Demonstrated understanding of utilization and productivity in a variety of clinical settings required.

    Required Licensure and Certifications:

    • Pharmacist License for state within respective division (or ability to acquire within defined time)
    • Membership in the ASHP, ASCP, WSSHP, APHA and/or other professional associations is desirable.
