Assistant Principal - High School

  • JOB GOALS: To assist in directing and coordinating educational, administrative, and counseling activities of the high school by performing the following duties.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Assist the principal with the evaluation of select certified staff and non-certified personnel.
    2. Assist in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
    3. Coordinate school safety drills.
    4. Develop and monitor school safety plans.
    5. Lead and participate in professional development activities.
    6. Work with students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to resolve behavior concerns.
    7. Maintain records with regard to student discipline and due process. Participate in appropriate hearings.
    8. Assist in supervising the counseling department.
    9. Supervise student attendance including truancy, chronic absences, daily attendance, and ADM reports. Serve as Elkhart County Attendance Program (ECAP) representative.
    10. Supervise select extra-curricular and athletic events.
    11. Serve as the high ability contact person for Northridge High School.
    12. Coordinate with the special education department chair to organize collaboration and training opportunities.
    13. Serve as the building test coordinator for all testing including College Board Advanced Placement, College/Career readiness tests, state required exams, and district required exams.
    14. Confer with the yearbook advisor regarding school photos and photographers.
    15. Assist in the development of the student handbook.
    16. Assist in the development of the master schedule.
    17. Use available school data to report student performance and behavior trends.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Assist with supervising classroom teachers and support staff within the school organization.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    Must hold a valid Indiana Secondary Administrator’s License.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of teachers, parents, children and the general public.

     

    MATHEMATICAL AND TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

     

    Ability to use a variety of computer software including word processors, presentation programs and spreadsheets (including basic and intermediate level formulas). Ability to use cloud-based programs, mobile devices, and social media.

     

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
