    POSITION TITLE: Assistant Principal              

    REPORTS TO: Junior High & High School Principal

    DEPARTMENT: Instructional Program                        

    CATEGORY: Certified

    CONTRACT TERM: Twelve Months (12)                                

    CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

     

    JOB SUMMARY: Hopi Junior/Senior High School is accepting applications for Assistant Principal for the 2021-2022 school year.  The Assistant Principal creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social and intellectual development of students. The Assistant Principal is responsible for overseeing the administrative, behavioral, and correlated academic progress of students at the Hopi Junior/Senior High School. This position manages student activities, enforces disciplinary measures, and works with other school departments to ensure that all student programs run smoothly and are of high quality.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    1. Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school.
    2. Serves as Principal in the absence of the regular principal.
    3. Facilitates a school-wide program with the student services department based on clearly defined expectations, reinforces positive behavior, and provides academic, behavioral, physical, and mental support programs to all students.
    4. Handle disciplinary cases, conferring with the Principal in those cases involving serious matters.
    5. Oversees the student referral process to counselors and service providers.
    6. Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, and deals with cases as necessary.
    7. Check on the validity of excuses, investigate absenteeism by telephone or by home visits, counsel students to improve attendance, and deal with cases of truancy and excessive tardiness.
    8. He/she shall confer with parents as needed on attendance, conduct, health and personal needs.
    9. Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions.
    10. Assists in supervising the preparation and composition of student schedules.
    11. Performs such record-keeping functions as the Principal may direct.
    12. Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
    13. Assists the Principal with department heads and faculty in compiling the annual school budget requests.
    14. Supervises student health programs.
    15. Cooperates in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
    16. Coordinates fixed assets and inventories within the instructional programs.
    17. Provides support to the organization and direction of all student organizations, clubs and activities, such as: assemblies, elections, contests, etc.
    18. Assists the Principal, and shares the supervision of school activities and supervision of sponsors to see that school policies, rules and regulations are followed.
    19. Assists in preparing the operational schedules for extracurricular activities and organizations.
    20. Supervise and assist in crowd control for all activities assigned by the Principal.
    21. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Principal may from time to time assign.
    22. Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

     

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

    1. Knowledge of best practices in teaching strategies.
    2. Knowledge of data assessment and disaggregation. 
    3. Knowledge of district rules of conduct and ethics.
    4. Knowledge of relevant Governing Board Policies.
    5. Skills in communicating clearly and effectively.
    6. Exhibits ability to establish trusting and respectful relationships with students and stakeholders.
    7. Maintains a professional but friendly demeanor at all times. Works well with a variety of different individuals, age levels and stakeholders.
    8. Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
    9. Demonstrates ability to multitask efficiently.
    10. Possesses specific knowledge of the bureaucratic organization and function of education administration.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. A Master’s Degree in Education. (College Transcript Required)
    2. A valid Arizona Administrative Principal’s Certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education.
    3. At least three (3) years of experience in school administration is preferred.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Hopi/Indian Preference in employment considered.
    2. Valid State Driver Licenses.
    3. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
    4. Must successfully pass employment background checks within the last five years which include state, federal and local tribe.
