    The following position is being posted for the 2024-2025 school year.

    DESCRIPTION: Full-Time Early College High School Assistant Principal

    LOCATION: Meridian Early College High School

    STARTING DATE: July 1, 2024

    QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

    • A Master’s Degree (MA) in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, Education, and/or a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent is required.
    • A valid Administrator’s Certificate, be enrolled in a program, or be willing to enroll in a program leading to certification as a school administrator.
    • District level experience in Administration/Central Office preferred.
    • 7 years of experience as a teacher, consultant or administrator is required.
    • Strong knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
    • A working knowledge of standards-based learning, project-based learning, CTE programs and closing the Opportunity Gap are preferred.
    • Have experience with teacher coaching, teacher evaluation and leading professional development.
    • Desire for rigorous professional development and coaching with a focus on continuous improvement and instructional effectiveness.

    SALARY: $75,000 – $85,000 Based upon experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Meridian Early College High School Assistant Principal plays a pivotal role in the administration and management of the high school, supporting the Principal in the overall leadership, coordination, and supervision of the school’s academic, operational, extracurricular and disciplinary activities. This position requires a strong educational background, exceptional leadership skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive and productive learning environment for our students and faculty. Furthermore, the Assistant Principal supports the Principal in providing instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development to improve student outcomes. The Assistant Principal leads the School-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports system and addresses student discipline issues.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Participate in and assume an active role in the behavior side of the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Support.
    • Lead the School-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports system that is built on restorative practices.
    • Administration and management of student discipline.
    • Conduct general supervision of the building.
    • Maintain an educational philosophy and school climate, which encourages a cooperative and participating attitude on the part of all teachers and students.
    • Apply knowledge of special education and supports to the administration and management of student behavior and discipline.
    • Assist in the development and administration of the general school routine and coordination of activities within the school building.
    • Evaluate existing programs and practices.
    • Assist in providing professional development around the identified school improvement goals.
    • Assist with creation of master class schedule.
    • Assist teachers and students with technology issues, and act as a liaison between the school and the technology department.
    • Creation of paraprofessional schedule.
    • Act as a truancy officer of the school, and work with parents and students to increase student school attendance.
    • Assist the district’s athletic director with the operation of high school athletics. This includes but is not limited to scheduling of ticket takers, faculty managers, and concession stand workers; cancellation of practices & games and public communication of cancellations; supervision of games.
    • Participate as an active member of the school Leadership Team.
    • Maintain effective communication to keep staff, students and parents properly informed.
    • Assist with the administration of District, State, or National testing.
    • Assist in hiring new staff and properly orienting them to the school.
    • Make recommendations to the Early College High School Principal on matters that will improve the excellence of the Building or District.
    • Attend professional conferences, seminars and workshops in education and/or educational administration as per agreement and/or Superintendent.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that promotes learning and respect among students and staff.
    • Provide instructional leadership by supporting teachers in implementing effective teaching practices and curriculum development.
    • Maintain a standard of student behavior designed to emphasize trust, respect and responsibility and minimize school and classroom disruptions.
    • Develop a growth mindset with students and staff.
    • Plan and maintain the building budget in cooperation with the Director of Business Services.
    • Make recommendations to the Superintendent on any matter which will improve the excellence of the District.
    • Have the ability to cope with emergency situations as they pertain to the health, safety and welfare of students and staff.
    • Have the ability to respect confidentiality in sharing information with parents, staff and others, where appropriate.
    • Attend building and District events.
    • Knowledge of state and federal laws and the ability to guide the implementation of these statutes, regulations and rules.
    • Regular and Reliable Attendance is an essential job function.
    • Assist in developing the building safety plan and the coordination of emergency drills.
    • Collaborate with Building Principal and Instructional Leaders to implement the district strategic plan
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Must meet, or be willing to meet, Michigan Department of Education School Administrator’s Certification requirements. Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required. Must be able to communicate effectively with children, teachers, co-workers, staff and administration. Must be able to read, comprehend and analyze instructions, correspondence, memos, reports, rules and regulations. Must be able to compose appropriate presentations, correspondence, and reporting with clear and concise information utilizing proper spelling and grammar. Must be able to write, manage, and administer grants.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations in order to make comparisons and/or determinations of evaluations of programs and presentations, and to produce charts, graphs, and reports.

    REASONING ABILITY
    Must be able to apply common sense and reason to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    • Must demonstrate cooperative and effective communication skills, both oral and written, and apply active listening skills with people and situations.
    • Must demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills in consultation, training, group facilitation and processes; must demonstrate planning, design, development and implementation of professional development and curriculum programs, working with groups such as administrators, teachers, parents, students, general public, and state committees.
    • Must have a high level of proficiency in the use of personal computers and related software applications such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, and presentation.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in managing and administering grants.
    • Working knowledge of state and federal mandates.
    • Able to work independently and/or collaboratively.
