Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Education is seeking a qualified and experienced individual that will report to the Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning who will serve as a key instructional leader in the Commonwealth to provide ongoing support for teaching and learning to practitioners in local school divisions. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership with a focus on seeking strategies, programs, and policies that will improve student growth and achievement results for Virginia’s students. Expert guidance in providing teachers and administrators with professional development, technical assistance, and support in implementing pedagogy to engage students in their school experience is a key role of this leader. The successful candidate will provide leadership in policy to support the VDOE mission and vision for instruction in the Commonwealth. Pursuant to Sections 2.2-3114 and 2.23115 of the Code of Virginia, the position of Assistant Superintendent for Instruction has been designated to file by the Code of Virginia, an annual “Statement of Economic Interests” form.
