    Brief Description of Duties

    The Department of Architecture and Urban Sustainability at The University of the District of Columbia, College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) seeks candidates for an Adjunct faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Architecture and Community Planning programs, with a start date of approximately August 16, 2021

    This position requires the Assistant/Associate Faculty Member to meet a specific need to:

    • Teach design studios in the undergraduate (B.S. in Architecture) program, as well as lecture and seminar courses in their area of expertise at either the undergraduate or NAAB accredited (candidate). With specific expertise in teaching the following courses:
    • ARCP 101 BASIC DESIGN AND COMMUNICATION I
    • ARCP 123 ARCHITECTURE AND PLANNING GRAPHICS

    at the undergraduate level.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Utilize a variety of assessment techniques to ensure achievement of student learning outcomes.
    • A willingness to familiarize themselves with a variety of instructional delivery methods, including on-line learning and social media, to provide educational content and opportunities supported by evidence-based research and individual expertise.
    • Demonstrate a familiarity with, or willingness to learn, Blackboard and Banner systems or other learning management systems.
    • Be familiar with the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accreditation standards.
    • Work collaboratively with the Department Chair, Associate Dean, Program faculty, other academic units in CAUSES land-grant programs as well as with District of Columbia (DC) agencies and service providers to effectively address DC and national program priorities related to professional Architecture practice.
    • Perform general student advisement, hold office hours, and perform course reviews with appropriate corrective/enhancement actions.

    Minimum Job Requirement

    • Terminal degree in Architecture (M.Arch. or B.Arch plus post-professional master’s degree in architecture or related field.
    • Practice experience and Registered Architect (required) in one of the 54 U.S. jurisdictions, licensure in the District of Columbia (preferred).
    • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Familiarity with and adherence to NAAB accreditation standards.
