  • The College of Southern Idaho serves high schools across the state by providing dual credit coursework to students currently enrolled in the K-12 system. As such, many of our faculty positions are designed to provide support to this mission. These positions carry a minimal college teaching load (usually maintained through online coursework for ease of travel and time flexibility) while providing support and mentorship to dual credit faculty throughout the state.

    A biology instructor in the Department of Biology must be prepared to teach a full range of lower-division biology courses to include, but not be limited to General Ecology and/or non-majors Biology. In addition to teaching these courses, a CSI biology instructor will supervise dual credit biology faculty throughout the state of Idaho by providing them assistance with CSI administrative processes, outcomes assessment processes, curriculum development and pedagogy support, and professional development in the areas of collegiate level biology instruction.

    Location: Teaching online through the Twin Falls campus with regular travel to local high school dual credit locations.


    Duties and Responsibilities:


    • Teach 6-9 contact hours each semester in accordance with the descriptions published in the CSI catalog.
    • Mentor, support, and assist dual credit faculty and the entire Early College Unit by serving as a faculty liaison to dual credit instructors.
    • Create and implement processes in support of the dual credit mission of the college. These will include outcomes assessment processes, curriculum development processes, and professional development for dual credit instructors.
    • Devote a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours as determined by college policy, and bring to the attention of the immediate supervisor any conditions which might affect employment.
    • Provide collegial support to extracurricular activities that occur in the department.
    • Assist the department chair in the development of semester schedules, textbooks, and outcomes assessment processes.
    • Participate in faculty development goals to improve professional effectiveness including instructional evaluation processes, interaction with the Teaching and Learning Center, attendance at the fall Learning Lab presentations, and other professional development opportunities to include a three-year onboarding process.
    • Provide current copies of course syllabi to chairperson each semester.
    • Meet all scheduled classes promptly with any deviation being filed promptly and accurately through the appropriate channels.
    • Assume responsibility for giving exams and other measurement necessary to determine student level of performance and understanding.
    • Monitor student placement in courses and student progress; maintain accurate records.
    • Interact with and advise students.
    • Promote and help with learning assistance services.
    • Cooperate with other areas of the College to provide an effective educational program.
    • Assist in the preparation of budget requests for each year.
    • Assume responsibility for all equipment assigned to the faculty member or to those under his or her supervision.
    • Attend and participate in all departmental, division, and faculty meetings.
    • Participate in all graduation exercises.

    Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

    • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the relevant discipline or a closely related field.
    • Experience in online education (development and pedagogy) strongly preferred.
    • Teaching experience (curriculum development and pedagogy) strongly preferred.

    • Develop and maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with members of the college department, administration and staff.
    • Develop and maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with members of partner high school departments, administrations and staffs.
    • Interact well with college students.
    • Have experience advising students.
    • Have experience integrating technology in instruction and implementing distance learning strategies.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:


    • Regular travel to dual credit sites to provide support to dual credit instructors as needed.
    • Use of computers in a multi-media classroom environment located throughout the campus.
    • Comfortable in online educational environments
    • Possible dual credit requirements to include teaching one or more sections at local high schools in accordance with CSI Dual Credit policies.
    • Possible flexible time (including evening, weekends, summer) to meet the onboarding and professional development needs of dual credit instructors according to their schedules.
