    Starting wage: $74,187 Annual (42-D)

     

    Purpose Statement

    The Accountant II maintains financial operations; ensures revenues and expenses are within budget limits and overall fiscal policies, practices, and regulations meet compliance requirements; maintains accurate account balances; evaluates feasibility of services within budget parameters; ensures efficient use of financial resources; and provides financial guidance and recommendations to the Superintendent and Board of Education.

     

    This position reports to the Director of Finance.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Bachelor’s degree with minimum 5 years experience, in job-related area OR 1 year of job-related experience with Master’s degree
    2. Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
    3. Intermediate level Microsoft Office Suite skills
    4. Knowledge of accounting principles and pertinent codes, policies, and regulations and/or laws
    5. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
    6. Ability to operate standard office equipment; phone, copy machines etc.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. CPA certification or CPA candidate
    2. Experience with Business Plus 
    3. Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environment
    4. Experience with Microsoft Access

    Essential Functions

    1. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
    2. Analyze specific accounting operations (e.g. payroll management, federal grant programs, internal controls, etc.) to ensure efficiency and adherence to general accounting standards and established internal policies and procedures
    3. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds.
    4. Assist auditors by providing required information and coordinating necessary project activities
    5. Assist program administrators in developing and maintaining program budgets (e.g. accounting procedures, account projections, etc.) to ensure fiscal solvency, auditing internal services, and remaining in compliance with standard accounting practices as well as district, state, and federal guidelines
    6. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
    7. Implement reporting procedures and internal controls to maintain accurate records and complying with standard accounting practices, district policies, and other regulatory requirements
    8. Inform a variety of district stakeholders (e.g. personnel, vendors, administrators, etc.) to provide necessary information for completing transactions and procedures, taking appropriate actions, and complying with established fiscal guidelines
    9. Maintain a wide variety of documents, files, and records (e.g. accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, contracts, etc.) to provide an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance
    10. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
    11. Monitor related financial activity (e.g. fund and account balances, internal processes, financial reports, etc.) to ensure that allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits, and standard accounting practices are followed
    12. Other duties as assigned.
    13. Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or or gathering information required to perform functions.
    14. Prepare a wide variety of written materials (e.g. procedures, reports, etc.) to document activities, provide written reference, convey information, and comply with financial, legal and administrative requirements
    15. Present information on a variety of topics to communicate information, gain feedback and ensure adherence to established internal controls
    16. Process a wide variety of fiscal information to update information and/or authorizing final action in compliance with accounting requirements
    17. Provide technical expertise and direction (e.g. internal processes, accounting procedures, etc.) to convey pertinent information to appropriate parties
    18. Recommend policies, procedures, and actions on issues that relate to accounting functions to provide direction for district leadership
    19. Reconcile account balances to maintain accurate account balances in compliance with standard accounting practices as well as district policies, practices, and regulations
    20. Research a variety of topics (e.g. governmental regulations in school accounting practices, trends, etc.) to provide information, recommendations, and address administrative requirements
    21. Research discrepancies of financial information and documentation (e.g. purchase orders, invoices, etc.) to ensure accuracy and adhere to standard accounting practices and procedures
    22. Respond to a variety of inquiries (e.g. staff, administration, vendors, etc.) to provide information, direction, and referral for addressing inquiry
    23. Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
    24. Supervise subordinate personnel (e.g. screening, interviewing, training, evaluating, mentoring, etc.) to maintain adequate staffing; assure accurate, timely, and smooth completion of department responsibilities and goals; and enhance personnel productivity and achieving objectives within budget
    25. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
    26. Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.

     

    Working Environment

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
