Assoc. Professor - Computer Science teaches courses in the discipline area of computer science. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Assoc. Professor - Computer Science provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Computer Science typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.     Fall 2023/Spring 2024 Paid Onsite Internship: Youth Development/Computer Science

     

    Do you have a passion for working with youth AND technology? Join Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee in this PAID internship program. This experience is designed for someone with a desire to impact youth through expanding their knowledge on Coding Concepts, Technology, STEM, and more!

    Key Objectives

    Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee is in search of Computer Science Interns (CSI) to join the Code Academy team in Davidson & Williamson Counties. Work alongside students at Code Academy to teach coding concepts and app design. In-school Code Academy coding clubs run from September-December & January-May during the school day. Summer Code Academy camps run from May-July. Training & equipment will be provided on conducting sessions, curriculums, and effective teaching skills. Identify a need within the program and develop a project as a solution. 

    This is GREAT for your resume/portfolio as well as the youth we serve!

    Spring/Fall Semesters (Sep-Dec/Jan-May)

    • Week 1: On-site training, team-building
    • Weeks 2-5: First round of coding clubs, familiarization with program
    • Weeks 6-10: Development of project, prototyping project application
      • Special events (coding day-camps & STEM education, etc.)
    • Weeks: 11-15: Second round of coding clubs, project implementation

    Summer Camps (June-July)

    • Week 1: On-site training, team-building
    • Weeks 2-5: First round of coding camps
    • Weeks 6-9: Coding camps continue
      • Special events ( coding day-camps & STEM education, etc.)
    • Week 10: Finalist app design competition preparation and event

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED

    • 1 to 2 years of experience working with children and/or youth

    • Interest in or understanding of coding concepts and app design

    • Knowledge of computers, applications, and basic knowledge of virtual platforms such as Zoom & Teams

    • Excellent communication skills

    • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment

    • Must pass a background check

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree, or certification preferred, or working toward degree in related field

    • Previous coding experience and teaching others about coding

    • 1-2 years of experience working with iOS programs, applications, and Apple products

    • Knowledge of youth development

    • CPR and First Aid Certifications

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Maintain close, daily contact with club staff, volunteers, members (youth), to receive / provide information,

    discuss issues, explain guidelines and instructions.

    • Instruct, advise, mentor, and counsel club members.

    • Ability to create and implement daily engaging activities on our virtual platforms.

    • Tech savvy; development of creative activities or projects

    Schedule: Hours range from 15 to 25 hours per week depending on availability and program needs.
