Assoc. Professor - Computer Science teaches courses in the discipline area of computer science. Professor - Computer Science provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Computer Science typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Computer Information Systems/Computer Science Professor, Full-Time Tenure Track

    South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks candidates for the 2024-2025 academic year to fill a full-time, tenure track position to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses in the Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Computer Science (CS) programs.  The effective date of employment will be September 16, 2024. SPSCC has a three-year faculty probationary period leading to tenure.

    This is a full time-tenure track position with a total starting salary of $73,700.  This salary includes a base salary of $67,300 for 177 contract days plus a stipend of $6,400 paid over the course of the academic year.  If granted tenure, the base salary will increase to $71,863.  On July 1, 2024, Faculty will receive a COLA of 5.87%.  Faculty are also eligible for a Retention and Progression Salary Enhancement of $1,000 added in the 5th, 10th, and 15th year after tenure.  Additionally, eligible faculty can apply for up to $3,000 annually for professional development funding.  For more information regarding the Faculty Pay Scale, please see Appendix A of the Faculty CBA - South Puget Sound Federation of Teachers.

    The instructor should be able to teach and guide persons interested in working for a government office or in the private sector, including healthcare, environmental and engineering firms, or service providers. The program provides students a solid foundation in both procedural and declarative programming (i.e., software development); the skills and knowledge needed to translate organizations’ data into meaningful, high-quality information and systems (i.e., database management and visualization); and for working on business support activities. In addition to technical skills, students are taught critical thinking and collaboration to understand the roles of programmers, developers, and business analysts. The program prepares students to quickly move into the workplace as an effective employee.

    • Use a wide range of learning resources, tools, and technologies to improve access and student success in higher education
    • Serve on committees that support the shared governance of the college
    • Remain current with relevant Computer Information Systems trends and technologies that can incorporate into the curriculum
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • A Master’s degree (or higher) in computer science, software development, database management and visualization, or closely related field.
    • Three (3) years of recent industry experience in Computer Science and/or Computer Information Systems 
    • Ability to teach a mix of: C#, databases/SQL, and web development
    • Ability to work a morning or evening schedule
    • A Washington State Professional-Technical Faculty Certificate (or ability to become certificated), which requires at least two years of applicable experience within the last five years
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated experience designing contemporary curriculum and/or conducting technical training 
    • Experience successfully instructing adult learners such as workers seeking retraining or career change-seeking students in a formal or informal setting
    • Computer science or computer information systems experience, including: web development, data analysis, data management, data visualization, cybersecurity, network administration, and/or software design using the model-view- controller pattern
    • Use of Agile software development and release processes
    • Ability to establish community and professional public and private sector connections, particularly as they relate to students’ educational experience
    • A commitment and ability to work effectively with students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, including a wide range of student preparedness and physical abilities
